Instead the Evo is a speciality car for the enthusiast market. It's a
car that impresses them alone. It's not for folks like Donal and Marty
who see a DB9 has the height of automotive engineering because of the
sheet metal or leather. For the enthusiast driver a DB9 is in a class
below the Evo, GT-R or 911 AWD Turbo. You can't explain it to them
anymore than you can make Donal believe that expensive stuff he'll
never own isn't always the best.

Yep, the only place my 9 had status was when we were at a track day.
My supercharged awd (to you Diamante/Verada) has a Q car cred while
delivering ride and handling that any Aston owner with an ounce of
driving ability would envy.
Of course it looks like a Diamante...but just a little lower and
sounds "sorta different"...and goes like a scalded cat!

Now there you go, behaving just like your politicians and spouting lies.

I said no such thing. You of course free to and prove otherwise. Until
such proof is forthcoming, you remain, a simple liar.

Earlier tonight, when I parked up, my wife gave me a kiss.

It was a kiss that said "We deserve this".

You haven't been kissed like that, have you?

Oz???

Donal

My wife is a reasonable race driver and has participated in a number
of tarmac rallies.
She absolutely glows when she's behind the wheel of either her MX5 or
the Evo9 before I sold it.

She has often remarked that we're lucky to be able to enjoy this..

The adrenaline after a spirited drive on a winding country road gets
me a lot more than a kiss!

That's great, Ozzy.
Since we got the Legacy turbo and I modded the suspension, Suzanne has
enjoyed driving the car more and she drives a 5 speed better than most
men I've seen. And she's not so shallow as to respond like poor
Donal's wife. I get far more than a special kiss and it sure as hell
doesn't require a nice car. The only thing more pathetic than Donal's
wife's actions is his willingness to post about it.
BTW, I'm having quite a time getting the Evo here in NY. Almost every
loaded GSR in Rally Red is sold. I located one in NJ, but the dealer
wants a way over MSRP. I may end up getting it from California.

Indeed, I've pretty much told my dealer that I'll have any colour but
they have assured me that after buying 6 Mitsubishis including the 9,
that I will have first refusal on their allocation.

BTW, an article on the manual here

Not at all. The Evo has better seats, a better stereo, a better Nav

Real race history? Who won the 2007 Le Mans, GT1 class? I remind you,
Le Mans is truly a road circuit, and race that separates the lesser from
the greater.

I thought you would have done a little research.

Cheers
Marty

BWAHAHAHAHA! Okay Marty, YOU need to do some research! Who campaigned
the DB9? Show us the DB9's race history vs. the Evo. Evo's are pro
raced daily and you might notice that an Evo just took a coveted prize
in one of the top rally races in the world. The DB9 is a luxury
cruising machine, Marty. It's not a hardcore sports car. It's funny
because the longer you and Donal fail to understand that, the dopier
you all sound.

Bottom line: Never buy anything Ford is involved with! The DB9 at 165K
doesn't have a single performance spec that is ahead of the pack. NOT
ONE. The Nissan GT-R I have a deposit on outdoes it in every single
respect that is key to high performance driving and at half the price.
The GT-R is also built better. The DB9 is a pretty, but expensive joke
on those who are more interested in how they appear to others. It's a
unique mix of high quality with little substance. The fact that an Evo
X bests in so many ways important to driving is humiliating enough.
Add a GT-R into the mix at just 75K and the DB9 seems like a Mini
Cooper by comparison.

EVOx is a cheap piece of junk. For a little over twice the money you could
have a 630 horsepower, 600 ft-lb of torque, true sports car that does 0-60
in 3.4 seconds, 0-100 in 7 seconds with a top speed of 200 (11.3 in quarter
mile.

big snip of boring automobile stuff

Yup! The only negative comments in the industry about the Evo came
from Consumer Reports. They also got the worst performance out of ALL
of the cars they tested. They also think Bose makes great speakers.
If you'd like some insight into how the Evo stacks up against the STI,
watch this....

Group, I am sorry but I feel a rant coming on about sparked off by all this
boys-toys supercar stuff which for some time I have been marking 'all as
read' because it bores me..

You are right. However, I would point out that when I go to
the sailing club, we do not restrict our talk to sailing. We discuss
politics, the economy, immigration and all the other things that
are in the newspapers at the time.

The good thing about this group is that we all enjoy sailing. I have
almost nothing to say about sailing at the moment because it has
been raining almost every weekend this summer. I've only had
5 outings this year......

The forecast looks good for tomorrow, but the tide isn't quite right.
So, we will go to Wooton Creek for Sunday lunch. If the wind
is kind, we will have a few hours of nice sailing afterwards.

To me, a car is merely a means by which myself, my family and our gear and
supplies get to the marina where our fine yacht awaits us.
To Bobsprit who has, it would seem, owned several cars without actually
doing anything spectacular with any of them, his car is the latest of the
many status symbols with which he has regaled this group.
This is a sailing group and he still posts under the heading of '35.5 Heart
of Gold' with no indication at all that he has even sailed the thing this
year although we do know that when he did it was only for an hour or two out
in LIS.

Well, to be fair, Bob never sailed very far from the marina.
If he got more than two hours from the marina then I will
salute him.

BTW Edgar, where do you sail from?

Regards

Donal
