Default No Longer a Beginner!

Having a small cruising boat like mine is more about having time, rather than
money. Just about anyone can have a nice cruising boat if they're clever
about it. Some people aren't. Glad you're having fun with your boat. Sail the

way
you want, just do it safely. Don't let any of the bitter folk here tell you

what
to do.

What do you mean, clever? Boats cost so much, and then you have to pay a slip
fee, too, I'm sure. Yes/No? How did you get your boat?

Because you're not a real sailor.

Ah, I see. I sail, but I'm not a "real" sailor. Ok. All I care about is sailing
my boat as fast as she will go without capsizing. I don't give a damn about
being a real sailor. But I have to ask, what's a real sailor?

I paid 16K for my boat. I pay no slip fees because I do some work for the yacht
club. I don't pay for work on the boat either. I do pay for my supplies and
that's about it. 16K is an amount most folks can handle. You could easily find
a cruisable and fun to sail Catalina 27 for 7K and put it on a cheap mooring.
Learn how to do your own repairs or make a deal with someone and you're all
set.
Even Scotty, a person without generous amounts of cash, managed to get himself
into a low-end 30 footer. You could easily do better as most do.
Sailing need not be expensive. My new boat is a 36 foot C&C from 1991. because
I sought out a special deal I'll sail her with very little financial impact.
When I leave NY, we'll probably get a liveaboard, which is a whole other way to
sail.

Edgar...do you sail? Do you like it? Then you're a sailor.
Getting technical, a "sailor" is someone who earns a living from boats/ships.
That makes me more of a "sailor" than most of the folks here!
Yesterday I ran a sea trial for a Cape Dory 25 that I brokered and sold...see
what I mean? Don't worry about the tired clowns here. Only a few have something
useful to contribute: Ozzy, Mooron, Doug, Jeff and a few others. The rest are
just bitter ****ed off losers and I aint kidding!
Don't get happy, Doug. You're still a creep who I wouldn't trust alone with a
dog.

Hey Bubbles, I've got absolutely no idea what my boats cost me to
keep.

Ignorance is bliss, right?

Apparently the big boat on Sydney Harbour is actually 'making' money
this year.
Better spend a few more bucks on something..can't have that :-)

There's a nice color GPS from garmin I have my eye on...old buddy old chum!
Shall I send you my address?

No, I agree. A sailor is one who makes their living from boats and ships. Where
I live there are many professional fishermen. I really like the fact that I'm
not a "sailor." Honestly.
