Is it true that Americans can buy cars made in Kanada cheaper than
Kanadians can?

Possibly. First, there is the exchange rate from US dollars to
Loonies. Then there is the import duty savings if you actually travel
to CA and buy the car there and bring it to the US as a private vehicle.

Many European auto makers have European delivery programs that can save
you a lot of money and, essentially, buy you a vacation. For example, a
BMW that costs $70K is discounted about 7% for a savings of $4900. This
discount is separate from any deals you negotiate with the local
dealer. You fly to Munich, buy your car, and drive around Europe for up
to 30 days (they pay the insurance) and drop it off at one of several
ports. Now you are the exporter so the duties/tariffs are gone and they
ship it to your dealer in the US. Some manufactures include a hotel
stay, dinner, and a factory tour as part of the program.

.......

I’ve heard of that. BMW used to have a program to come over, buy a bike, tour package, ship bike home. All in a reasonable bottom line (I suppose) fee. Don’t know if they still offer that or not.

Maybe something between 150cc and 250cc.....weighing no more than 250 pounds.
Not sure I'd want a rough riding dirt bike or a more refined scooter. I would use it mostly off road but on groomed trails rather than rut filled logging roads.....well, most of the time.

Husqvarna makes some interesting light motorcycles

https://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com/enduro/

How many towns have Husqvarna motorcycle dealerships? That would be my first concern.

Don seems undecided about a small motorcycle (dirt bike) or a scooter.

A scooter is really not designed for off-road riding, even on groomed
trails. They are designed for on-road use. For his purposes, I'd
stick to a small dirt-bike type motorcycle.

Yup. My point was that a scooter and a motorcycle are two entirely
different riding experiences with different balance issues. A scooter
has a flat platform for your feet whereas the motorcycle has you
straggling it, with legs on either side. I noticed it right away
when riding my little scooter and then hopping on the Suzuki motorcycle.
I wouldn't try off-road riding on the scooter.

They had that problem in DC when someone got the idea putting cops on
scooters was a good one. They were on some kind of 125cc scooter
chasing people through back yards and parks. So many cops got hurt
they had to abandon the scooters. I think they did try dirt bikes
after that but the whole idea was scrapped after a while.

They had the Park Police on those little Honda 90's. Don't see them anymore. I think all those guys
are now on bicycles.

My DC cop buddy was on a 125 I think but that may have been the dirt
bike. We are talking about over a pool table at my house in the 70s.
with a blender running ;-)
I just know the whole thing in District 2 was dropped. He was back in
a car and he hated it.

Friends of ours did that with a new Mercedes some years ago. The car
got vandalized at the US port of entry and it was a lot of time and
hassel to get it fixed. Perhaps now you could get it shipped in a
container and minimize the risk.

That's basically the way I bought my Saab when I came back from Stuttgart, except that I was already
over there.

BMW has a similar program to pick up your pre-ordered car in Europe.
They also have a program where you can take delivery at their
High Performance Driving school in South Carolina.

https://bmwperformancecenter.com/delivery

BMW offers a performance driving course for those who
have any of the "M" series vehicles. I bought the two M5's
I had from the local dealer's inventory but they both came
with a free performance driving course if I had wanted to
drive to SC and attend. I thought about doing it but ended
up dumping the M5 for the Porsche.

If you'd offerred, I'd have taken the M5 down and taken the driving course, just to break in the M5,
ya know.
