Nobody's listening to you, asswipe.

Anybody interested in Consumer Reports ratings on Looneys' piece of junk
Jeep?
He'd be well advised to junk it and buy a RAV4.

I'll pass. Consumer reports is for folks who are too lazy to do their own
research. What does CR say about choosing a vehicle for towing or hauling
stuff?
I'll bet you wish you had bought the Ranger from the lease company.

Not likely!
It was a bit too small and uncomfortable.
The 'Super Cab' compromised visibility, when is important on a narrow city
street with a reasonable amount of pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks.
The truck that impressed me was the old (pre 2007) Toyota Tundra pickups,
before they became 'Americanized'.

Yeah, already read em'.. There's always *something* to say about
Jeeps. I am on my fourth Jeep and find that if you take some basic
care and keep your equimpent up, they are great trucks. They pull
nicely.......... and look really cool doing it

And if you want to save yourself 6-800 bucks, get one of these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=42708

They fold away on rollers when not in use and you can get em' real
cheap. I have been using one of these folders for over 15 years right
through the furniture (heavy oak stock) to the boat building and
everything in between... One sheet of plywood bolted to the frame, and
if you want sides get a couple more sheets a two by four or two, some
carrige bolts, and a set of these:

http://www2.northerntool.com/trailer...iler-hardware/...

This setup is much quieter going down the road, and takes up 2' x 6'
of floor space in the garage. You will still have room to hide that
Pink chicks car away. Always check the bearing pack when buying a new
trailer, I put bearing buddies on mine, never had a problem since..

EDIT.. The trailer I have is this one:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90154
I put the wrong link in...

Either way, you have to keep up with these, keep bolts tight and such,
but like I said, I have been overloading mine for over a decade and
it's still going strong...

Sorry Pinky...

I don't have a Jeep. The one I had had over 350,000 miles on it. I'll
bet good money your sissy RAV4 won't get there.

Crikey...Jeeps have been low-quality, unreliable pieces of crap for
decades. The Jeep itself was a far better vehicle when it had a small,
tough four-banger engine and was light enough to handle thick beach sand
or snow without sinking down to its axles. Over the years it devolved
into your basic pussy vehicle for suburbanite who though the brand name
Jeep added a little panache to their otherwise poseur lives.

Yeah. Loogy has a Jeep vehicle. It figures.- Hide quoted text -

Hmmm, let's see. First I don't have a Jeep. I HAD a Jeep. I put well
over 350,000 miles on it. Let's see, I replaced the water pump, I
replaced the radiator because a rock poked a hole in it, and that's it
outside of routine maintenence. Nope, not reliable at all. And for
what it's worth, alledged mechanical engineer, the Jeep straight six
is one of the most durable engines around.

Now that the Ranger pickup has gone back off lease, I have an occasional
use for a small utility trailer.
Here's what I'm looking at right now...
Lifetime fold-up 4' x 6' model capable of carrying 1000 lbs. Canadian
Tire has them on sale next week at $800.00 CDN.
pros...small & light...very easy to store on small city lot. deck made
of galvanized corrugated steel
cons... way more moving parts to sieze & rust...light duty.. inside
dimensions just a hair too small for laying 4' wide sheets flat,
frame is powder coated steel

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...%2BTrailer.jsp

DuraTrail 52" x 100" galvanized Econo Utility with landscape ramp
pros..can easily carry full sheets of plywood, gyproc etc
hot dipped galvanized for long lasting in our salt air climate/ winter
road salt
can carry approx 1700 lbs
cons.. 2.5 times the cost.....$1900.00 down here (only $1500.00 in
Ontario where they are built)
might be a bit awkward to move around & store on a small lot

http://www.trailerworld.ca/detail-1-...econo-box-.php

Got a trailer rental joint anywhere near?

Just got back from a 'survey' trip with the wife.
I showed her the Lifetime folding trailer..on display at a Dartmouth
canadian Tire store and the DuroTrail welded, galvanized trailer at the
place who installed my 'Hidden Hitch'.
She took one look at the bigger DuraTrail with it's high rear 'landscape
type' loading ramp and said...where are you going to store that?
We also dropped into the U-Haul rental center and saw two reasonable sized
utility trailers. They weighed 1240 lbs curb weight. I'd be able to load 260
lbs before exceeding the SUVs limit.
Funny...both trailers caried Virginia license plates.
The good thing...U-haul were advertising vans at $19.95 a day for in-town
use. I imagine they'd be pushing insurance for the same amount.

The Lowes here rent flat bed pick ups for something like $19 for 45 minutes.
Do you have Lowes up there? Far, far away?

Naw...that's the problem.
U-Haul keeps it's crappy worn out trailers across the harbour and the
utility type are few & far between.
Those larger enclosed models people use for moving would max out my RAV4s
towing limit before I loaded a 2" x 4".
Actually when you add up the yearly license fee ( $40 ) + yearly safety
checks ( $15 ) plus depreciation I could probably rent a pickup two or
three times a year and break even... especially with the $1900. model.

Can you put a rack on the RAV4?
I've hauled outrageous stuff on the top of my cars.
Ropes all over the place, etc.
Bought a cheap removable rack for my Celebrity, but never used it.
Didn't trust it.
I collected a lot of 2x4's that I bought just to provide a base for
4x8 sheet materials on the rooftop.
Use old blankets to protect the roof.
Last thing I brought home was a 40 gallon water heater. Big box.
Use lots of rope and wrap it every which way but loose.
Makes you wish you still had the pickup. but it cost too much to keep
one around for real occasional stuff.
Delivery charges aren't too bad anyway.
I'm not recommending this, but my brother drove over here, about 30
miles, with 24' gutters tied to the top of a Chevy Cavalier.
I thought that was bad, but I told a guy at work to get his gutters
rolled to size and not use joined sections.
That guy had a little Chrysler k-car size thing.
Turns out he was too cheap to have the roller truck come out, so he
tied a 40 foot gutter to the top of the car and drove it home.
Beats me how he made it without getting pulled over.
I'd pay to see that trip.

--Vic

Ha! Funny you should mention this Vic, my Dad was a finish carpenter and
drove a '61 Chevy with racks on the top and used to haul all kinds of stuff
up there!
