Without taking sides in this part of the discussion, I have to say it was a
nicely crafted sentence. Hints of cherry & apricot, with a finish of almond.
It should age well.

The US is far from being in the "dumper" and your claim is a bit
misleading. According to the UN Human Development Index (HDI), the US
hasn't led or come close to leading the list since at least 1980 but
it's ranking is still up there with little mathematical score difference
between it and the top of the list. It is interesting that the
countries that have led the list over the years tend to be more
socialistic in their government.

I suspect the Finns know exactly why they have the system they have, and
would have a different one if it appealed to them.

Finland was a province and then a grand duchy under Sweden from the 12th to
