Yes... let's talk operational costs shall we... if only to substantiate your
claim to it being "inexpensive".
I have a lot of experience with Sat Phones... I use them regularly for work
related communications in extremely remote locations.

I cannot see a viable use for one on a coastal cruiser.

Tell us Bob... what Sat Phone provider are you going to register with? No
... please Telus!

We haven't picked one yet. My old unit was globalstar, which I actually
got a
deal on at the time through my local provider. I used it for my job at the
time, but we have since switched to using the web.

Well what would you call cruising along the coast?
....even if that "coast" amounts to a dock and a breakwater.

Good question, Donal,

I don't think Nutsy has sailed the south coast of Long Island. About 120
miles. The Sat Phone wasn't activated :^)

Reading his posts, do you suppsed his boat done it without him? Any boat
he is on, any boat, has a very limited range. Very limited. Even if he
uses Pooka Bill to say otherwise.

That's my point! Bob's posts suggest that he sails within a 1/2 mile of the
marina.

I've never sailed more than 30 miles from land. I consider myself to be a
coastal sailor.

If I sailed a Beneteau I would stay even closer to land than thirty miles . . .

You, sir, are a brave but foolish man.

Compared to you, I am an abject coward!
