Ever maneuvered a 52'yacht in close quarters Donal?
I can tell you that having a bow thruster makes it much easier, and
gives a huge margin of safety.

We can put this boat into a single marina berth stern to in 20kts of

wind quickly, easily and safely without the rush to get a line on

bow before it starts to swing.

There are a couple of things to reduce drag from the tunnel. One (simple
& cheap) is to work up a sort of fairing at the leading edge of the
tunnel so that the flow is diverted when the boat is moving forward...

as possible, except that this reduces the amount of horsepower you can
get into play; which can be helped by putting it deeper & further forward.

I agree with Oz1, there are times & places where a bow thruster is
really handy. It greatly extends the range of maneuvering possibilities
in tight places and crosswinds.

Last time I backed into the slip with a strong x wind, I went much
further down the fairway, backed her pretty fast, made the turn and
stopped just in time. I was kinda proud of the 'parking job' I did,
till I reached for a dock line and noticed I was in my neighbors'
slip.

Nope. It costs very little and is only to be used in an emergency. Since and
expensive system is on board, why not keep it operational? Cell phones don't
always work and being able to make a call in a medical emergency seems like a
good thing.

have a Sat Phone Activated ...... let's not even calc the rate per call!


I'll have a small child on board. To keep the phone in standby is 90.00 per
month. I'll take that extra little safety net, thank you.

without cellular service??

Whole sections of the LIS are without service or have poor service. I've
switched phones 3 times to attain better signals. Verizon is currently the
best. It works 75% of the time.
