Yacht Clubs--a mistake
Ed asked: Tell me, does anyone actually wear a blazer with
an emblem and a captains hat? Only motorboater's wear that kind of thing...most folks at ours wear khaki shorts and t-shirts....and baseball caps.... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. because if I have to buy a sponsor, that seems way too much like buying a friend. Gee...our sponsor owns a very small marina of his own up on White Lake and drives around in cut-offs in his beat up Ford pick-up...he's just a plain, old nice guy and he'd probably rearrange the face if someone suggested he could be "bought"....we were referred to him by a mutual friend, and also have known the manager of the yacht club for years...since he was a teenager, in fact....You have a very warped idea of the world, Ed Gordon.... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. Ed, If that's your definition of rich, then that's great...however, there
are those who also consider their Beamer, their 4K sq ft house, and their accoutrements as being gifts from God. They also consider their lives to be rich in more than just money. Don't be so hasty to judge others just because they like their possessions or have more than you. That makes your definition smack of insincerity. -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. He has a lot of gay friends at his yacht club.
-- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "EdGordonRN" wrote in message ... At my yacht club, if you have to ask, you can't afford it. To get in, you need a sponser to fill out the admission forms, and letters of recommendation from two more members. Why do you bother? What do you get out of that? People approving of you and you have to pay for the privilage of people approving you? For a boat club? Maybe there's something I don't get. Yacht Clubs--a mistake
I belong to a yacht club, and find it to be an excellent way for people
who do not or cannot own lakeside property to enjoy the water and boating. My club requires three sponsors, and a guest membership period in order for the applicant and the membership to make sure they are comfortable with each other. The only routine paid services utilized by the club are mowing the grass, garbage pick-up, and a weekly housecleaning, so it is very important that members clean up after themselves, pitch in to help on semi-annual workdays, and serve on various committees. In return, members have access to a marine railway, dry storage, wet slips, launching ramps, docks, swim area, a club house that can be reserved for private events at no charge, personal lockers, camping areas, organized rowing and sailing programs, and the society of congenial people for frequent social events. All of this is at an annual cost about half of the annual lease of a slip for a 25 foot boat in a commercial marina. We have a limited number of club owwned boats available for member use on a first-come, first served basis, including a laser, a j-22, a couple of sunfish, rowing skulls, and a couple of canoes. Multi-class club races are held roughly everty two weeks year round, and there is ample opportunity to participate as a crew member or by skippering one of the club boats. Since the membership jointly owns a multimillion $ facility, a modest initiation fee ($1200 when I joined) and a process of ensuring mutual compatability between members and candidates is appropriate, in my opinion. We are a southern club, and do not descriminate based on race, creed, or social status. Our membership includes a butcher, a few doctors, school teachers, college professors, a smattering of yankees, an English couple, a Frenchman, and at least one athiest. -- Elmo "EdGordonRN" wrote in message ... Sailing gets me closer
to God and I get to do it all the time. That is the most damaging anti-sailing comment ever. RB |

I would consider it a curse if I had
to have a BMW Why is that? BMW's arent that expensive! And some of them are a lot of fun to drive. If the M3 goes to AWD and gets some headroom, I'd buy one. It's just a car that even you could afford. RB |

Man, it's easy to see why this country is a conservative pool of filth when people are thanking invisble "forces" for their own hard work. Poor Katy was brainwashed. She would not know of "god" unless it had been taught to her. Oh, George Carlin, where art thou? RB |
