During our Labor Day weekend picnic I talked about our planned road
trip to Baltimore, NYC, Boston and Maine in mid October.

My BIL suggested a visit to Mystic Harbor in New Haven, CT while
traveling from NYC to Boston.

Does anyone have any information on Mystic Harbor?

You sure she didn't mean Mystic harbor in Mystic, CT?

Yes I guess I do. Bad info from my BOL.

No problem - things to do in Stonington (which includes Mystic).

1 - Gotta visit the Mystic Aquarium and see the Ballard Titanic
exhibit. It's interactive and is quite the deal.

2 - Mystic Seaport. Lots of stuff to see at the Seaport (which is
what I suspect your BIL was talking about). All kinds of restorations
and such, plus several sailing vessels of old including the Morgan a
whaling ship. Very cool place to visit.

3 - Seaman's Inn for dinner, but - eh - it's ok - Mrs. Wave likes it,
but it's pricey and I didn't care for it.

4 - Stonington Harbor - also very cool. There is a resturant there
that's right on the main channel out of the Pawcatuck River that I
can't remember the name of now. I'll ask Mrs. Wave and send it along.
Get a seat on the outer veranda and watch the boats in and out of
Stonington.

5 - Watch Hill, RI. Just up the road along Rt. 1. Park the car and
head out to the lighthouse which is open for visitors, but you can't
take a car out there. Watch Hill has a great view of Fisher's Island
Sound, Fisher's Island and parts of Block Island sound. On a clear
day you can see Montauk, NY, Block Island and Martha's Island. Plus
you will get to see a bunch of great looking yachts there.

6 - Want to see fishing boats? Head further up Rt. 1 to Point Judith
and walk around the wharfs there. Tons of fishing boats and probably
a few that you may have seen on Discovery Channel. It's worth the
time to park the car and walk out on the Harbor of Refuge break water
- espiecally the west wall and watch the boats go in and out. I can
sit there for hours watching everything going on.

Newport further up which is fun - in particular the inner harbor where
all the expensive yachts are.

If you have the time, drop me a line and I can meet you in Mystic for
lunch or something and give you the .05¢ tour. :)

Thanks for the info Tom! We may take you up on that offer.

For openers, it's not in New Haven!

Seaman's Inn barely rises to "mediocre". The food is reminiscent of
Howard Johnson's. There are many much better restaurants in the area.
Skippers Dock in Stonington, The Fisherman in Noank (Mystic is also in
Noank) Alfred Packer Inn in Mystic and my personal favorite, The
Seahorse in Noank.

Then there are the famous, "Abbotts Lobsters in the Rough" and down
the street is Costellos, which is clam oriented. That's Abbotts and
Costellos - get it? Skip them.

That's Skippers Dock. It's pretty good. You drive down some very
narrow streets to get to it.

What's the preferred route from New York City to Boston these

after that, I just don't remember.

Our preferred route is to take the Hutchison River Parkway out of NY
which turns into the Merit Parkway in CT. The Merit turns into the
Wilbur Cross parkway near West Haven, which then connects up with I-91
north near Wallingford. Exit I-91 just south of Hartford to I-84
east. Folow I-84 to the Mass Pike and continue east. City limits to
city limits it can be driven in about 4 hours on a good day. Taking
the Hutch and Merit vs I-95 is much more scenic and avoids a lot of
congestion.

It's actually quicker to drive many times.
