That would definitely do it. Considering it is 11,000+ lbs as tested, 36 ft long, doing 50+, not too bad actually for gas engines, just a little tough on the gas budget. I have neighbors with I/O speed boats in that size range that burn about the same. I was looking at a Cape Horn and the guy is selling the boat, but keeping his engines. I was seriously considering that Yamaha 350 as I wouldn't have to use duals - I seriously want to uncomplicate my boat life. I'm not so sure I'm going to do that. Yamaha is making some claims that I'm not convinced are - er...Kosher. :) Are you referring to Yamaha's performance sheets? My experience with them, though limited, indicates they are spot-on. The other Yamaha owners I have talked to with all manner of boats indicate they are damned close to their results. Maybe you should come by here after the Annapolis powerboat show. The local Grady/Parker dealer puts on a couple of days of water demos with help from the factories. I am sure there will be several boats with 350's mounted, and you can try them out. Some years ago, at that event, I got a ride in the first and only diesel jackshaft 28' Parker built. Cool ride on a really rough day. That exact boat is up for resale by its original owner. Is it just the fuel burn that intrigues you? My new boat/motor combo hasn't been tested by Yamaha, so I got a performance sheet from the Parker factory, which runs its own tests. The guy who ran the tests told me my results would be a bit better than his, and he was dead on, including the fuel burn. It really serves no purpose for these guys to put out made-up numbers. |
