Since the feds passed "Real ID" that is going to be the same thing.
The cop can use the unique ID number on the back of your license
(buried on the mag stripe and in that dot code) and find out
everything the government knows about you.
That is why an Arizona driver's license is "papers",

go ahead and try to get a license in 1 state with a license from
another state. i did that with a texas license in PA 2 years ago.

good luck.

americans dont have to show **** to a cop beyond their license when
driving a car. and the right wing wants to change all that...

"VHERE ARE YOUR PAPERS HERR FREWELL"?

In most states you have to show proof of insurance papers also. Or you
get
to walk to the nearest bus stop as the car is towed. With a ticket
issued
to you. More than just showing your license to the cop. And the
license
will show your citizenship.

The SCOTUS also says the cop can make everyone get out, show ID, get
searched for weapons, search the car for weapons and run a dog through
it. Somehow, you immigration status seems pretty minimal at this
point.

So, why is there a need for a new AZ law? It doesn't do anything for
border
security.

Why do you care? You don't live in Arizona.

I care because I'm invested in mankind. Therefore send not to know for whom
the bell tolls. It tolls for thee (with apologies to John Donne).

Perhaps political posturing had something to do with it? The state of
Arizona really can't do much about the immigration issue, but they can
try to look like they are. They have certainly raised awareness if
nothing else, and it will probably embarass the feds into doing more.

No argument there.

It really sounds like it worked too. Illegals are leaving Arizona and
Obama is beefing up the border. That is all they wanted.

They're leaving because of the racist law that will hopefully soon be
stopped by the court. Obama isn't the only one who sent troops to the
border, and "beefing" up the border is not just about sending troops.
Talk to McCain, who at one point, took a rational approach.

Thank God they can go to California to get away from the racists.

Jim - Seeing the silver lining.
