snip No "agencies"....no "bureaucrats"....Thank you Bi-Lo Corporation. I've never forgotten it, either. Precisely my point of the donations. Charleston was SWIMMING in MONEY after Hugo, once we dug our way out of the trees. Insurance money just POURED into this place. We missed 2 recessions everyone else suffered. We all got new roofs/houses/cars/stuff. I never figured out what FEMA, SC Emergency Preparedness and the local bureaucrats did. They didn't do anything for anyone I knew.... Somewhat similar experience up here two years ago when Hurricane Juan hit. Six days & nights without electricity...cold showers etc. All refrigerated food gone bad by day 3..... no help from anyone. I replaced windows myself because I thought my insurance deductable would equal the cost. Did go through auto insurance to replace van side window smashed by tree limb. I should have had them repair roof. A number of my shingles still look wrinkled & stained from branches. |

In Charleston, SC, 1989, Hurricane Hugo, not one single "agency" or other bureaucracy did a damned thing for anyone that I ever met or know, You didn't get out much, did you? ... I was lucky enough to be a survivor in in Summerville, SC. Not to belittle H. Hugo, but how many people died in Summerville during Hugo? ... It took us 2 weeks of 10 hour days to cut our way out to the main entrance. Really? I visited friends in Summerville a week after. Goose Creek too. .... No Red Cross bureaucrats were ever seen in their shiny trucks, wearing their pseudo-military smart uniforms advertising the company logos...nothing. That's funny, there was both Red Cross and Nat'l Guard handing out water in downtown Charleston a week after, and at least through the 2nd week. Once we were out of the neighborhood, we were going nowhere. The main roads were still "waiting" for the "agencies". Larry, I don't know what kind of right-wing la-la land you were stuck in after Hurricane Hugo... and apparently since then... but it doesn't bear any resemblance to the Charleston that I saw. I was there. You can bull**** a lot of folks, but don't try that with me. Doug King |

Doug,
Its not a right wing thing. I am as far right as you get and am on your side with this. Some people have really had bad times and maybe from his view, this is what he saw. . Some people use excuse not to help others - lets hope that is not his game. Make one point clear. This is not a Left/Right issue. It is an American issue, a people need help issue and a lets do what is right issue. There is one thing I have noticed in the news is a BIG way and it makes me wonder. There are Christian chruch after church that has been stepping up to help but I have not seen one thing about Jews or any other religion (other then mormon) getting involved. I find that very strange. I hope it is just a media thing. |

I'd bet that most Jewish congregations have already solicited their members for donations. http://www.ujc.org/content_display.h...ticleID=161563 http://urj.org/relief/index.cfm? Here in Boston, for example, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has pledged to match donations from the players, and of course is part of the $2 mil donation from the NFL. |

Doug, Its not a right wing thing. I am as far right as you get and am on your side with this. Possibly. If so, welcome. It is however a "left-right thing" due to the politicizing of the event, mostly from the far right. There is a huge slander & smear campaign being ramped up against a group of politicians (they happen to be Democrats what a coincidence) and a tremendous amount of buck-passing, others-blaming, and just plain old spin coming directly from the Bush Administration. They are even slandering various charities that they see as "favored by the Left." IMHO there is plenty of blame to go around. Should city authorities in New Orleans have been better prepared, starting with years back? Yes, definitely. Has the Bush Administration and it's various departments, starting with "Homeland Defense" been caught napping, with a feeble, slow response? Yes definitely. Should the American people get the heck to work on getting the whole area devastated by Katrina back on it's feet? Yes, and we should also stop accepting lame-ass excuses from our elected leaders who have racked up enormous public deficits and have nothing to show for it. There is one thing I have noticed in the news is a BIG way and it makes me wonder. There are Christian chruch after church that has been stepping up to help but I have not seen one thing about Jews or any other religion (other then mormon) getting involved. I find that very strange. I hope it is just a media thing. I have. I guess it depends on where you look. You certainly shouldn't make such bigoted statements without a bit more research, it makes you look like a fascist dumbass. To the rest of the group- I apologize if this seems a bit over the top. But I've been working on some relief efforts myself, been appalled as the news gets worse and worse, taken aback by the response of the gov't & by the foolish statements being made in public. The last straw is the barking of these right wing attack dogs. It's gotten WAY out of hand, and well past time to put muzzles on them. Regards Doug King |

There was no aid to anyone I knew of until Bi-Lo rolled in those hundred trucks as soon as they could. One radio report said there was water and ice at the now-defunct Charlestowne Square Mall alonside I-26. They never made it. I waited for four hours. That was the last time I went down to this poverty neighborhood for a handout. Attacking me will NOT change the financial situation with the Red Cross or any other aid bureaucrats. You have money to donate, great! Do it to a VICTIM you can help....But don't just hand it over to the Rolex Boys at the National Red Cross to steal. That might make a touchy-feeley-good, but it won't help some poor ******* from Biloxi, who doesn't have a home any more, pay his hotel bill in Houston...where it's really needed. -- Larry |

Hey! palmtreedreamer is Danny Taddei, a long-time Usenet idiot who's
been driven from any number of groups over time for his idiocy. Just ignore him. He usually goes away pretty quickly. Frank |

Bigoted? Man you read me wrong! I was making a comment about the Media
not showing anything. Perhaps you don't realize that I believe that Eve is the mother of all men and WE are all of one race. |
