You still have your Butterfly?

Yeah, she said she plays on it.

Pony asked: Katy,
You still have your Butterfly? Do you get to sail
it much. Stop by on your way to FL and we can
race them.
S

Kind of hard to carryon a Butterfly on a plane! I'll be selling it before
we move, since I really don't want to be shark bait...will probably get
something like a JY15 to gunkhole with when we move there...I flip way too
much to be comfortable sailing around carnivorous fish in a scow!

Oh yeah, bull sharks eat people here at least one every 15 minutes. Definitely
can't use a 12 foot boat. You have to have a 15 foot racing boat to be safe
from the sharks.

Wrong. There is a difference sailing a scow than sailing a JY 15....I
prefer to have my butt up out tof the water, thank you, and also to have a
more reliable boat that doesn't flip...and Florida does not publish the
actual amount of shark attacks due to scaring off the tourists....I have
stepped on a shark...I didn't know I could run that fast...

My wife and I like to sail Vanguard V-15's in Santa Monica Bay. We rent
them and try to go out once every week or two. It's a great feeling to be
so close and connected with the sea and wind, I just don't get that same
feeling on a keel boat.

Mexico.
We've made some minor modifications, of course.

It goes really fast in good wind, and we can sail it right on the edge of

the
no sail zone (45 degrees off the wind). The boat is named, naturally,
"Veridican."

What about you--what do you sail?

Agreed. Even the high performance keel boats cannot possibly duplicate
the responsiveness of small fast racing dinghy. That's probably why all
the world's best racing skippers earned their stripes in one or another
of the fast centerboard classes before moving into the high-dollar
sailing world.

A frequently stated but nevertheless illogical point.

Cheers

This is called "pointing". Anybody who races does it.

Congratulations! Welcome to the sport of sailing.

On a regular basis: JY15, Laser, Albacore, 470, CL-16, Hobie14, plus a
smattering of windsurfers.

Occasionally I'll hitch a ride on a keelboat when I feel like sailing
with a ton of lead underneath me.

Too bad there's not a separate dinghy newsgroup.
