I don't post that much here anymore. There's only a couple of people
left here, you among them, that I like and find interesting. The netcops
have turned this newsgroup into a pile of steaming dung, suitable mostly
for their overwrought and uncritical advertorials.

Last we heard, the YoHo was being offered for sale. Assuming you found
a buyer, that leaves you with "half a canoe" and some other assorted
paddle boats (IIRC). Maybe you're posting less because you're fairly
well out of boating these days? Should the NG emphasis ever shift back
to personal attack, overwrought and uncritical political cut 'n paste,
and unsubstantiated claims of personal wealth, prestige, and
accomplishment- the crowd that such a change might generate will
probably bring in a few people you will like and find interesting. So
hang in there, Harry- there's hope for a return to the nasty old days
you so enjoyed here and an accelerating trend among the majority to go
there.

Meanwhile, as long as you have introduced the thought that we should be
critical of the quality of posts to the NG, I'm still looking for some
evidence that your lobster boat exists outside of your imagination.
Wait! I know just where to turn to find it: rec.boast

Gosh Harry, I never realized a couple well-meaning people could have such
an influence on you.

Naw. The problem here is that the newsgroup is overwhelmed by assholes.
Like you.

Overwhelmed?

Name-calling?

How many netcops are there?

Me right...you wrong!
Chuck is ****ed at me because I am annoyed at his petty netcopping
here.
The netcoppers remind me of grammar school recess monitors, the ones
everyone wanted to beat the crap out of and sometimes did. Only the
prissy sissies liked the monitors.
How does an offer to write up your boat result in, "Chuck is ****ed at
me..."?
What? Why would I want or need Mr. Advertorial to do a "write-up" for
me? If I wanted a "write-up," I'd write it myself. Without the purple
prose.

That came nowhere close to answering my question.
It wasn't his offer to to a "write-up" that bothered me . It was his
out-of-the blue admonishment that Harry "come clean" because it's "good for
the soul" in a lecture style. Who cares?

Harry cares.

Harry has been cowed lately, the question is why. Typically at this time
of year Harry is spouting off about how bad the Republicans are going to
loose and what the Democrats are going to do once they get back in
control of Congress or the White House.

Why is Harry silent on the political front?

I've been busy lately, Bertbrain. Radio commercials, television
commercials. PAC money is out there for the getting. Hell, I had a
lovely TV spot running statewide in Virginia last week and on CNN for
the Virginia/DC/Maryland audiences.

Love it.

Wow! Which one, Harry?

Chuck, before you say another word; think about your recent outbursts and
ask yourself " what must the fine people of rec. boats be thinking about
Chuck Gould's state of mind?" Do yourself, and us, a favor and take a break
from rec.boats for a while.

Rec.boats is an unusual newsgroup. It is one of the oldest newsgroups on
Usenet (along with alt.sailing.asa) and is unique in the respect that it has
no charter. It's more of a free for all. One of it's best attributes in the
past has been humor and although I don't always agree with Harry on some
subjects, I've always found a light side in many of his posts.

Personally, I enjoy the boating topics but, as I've got to know some of the
virtual personalities of some of the participants, I've also enjoyed many of
the off topic discussions and debates. Everything can be done to an excess
of course and when it does it becomes obvious. Filters work well if some
topics or those that indulge in personal attacks get to be too much for
anyone.

Point is ... your constant scolding, lectures and passing of judgment about
how *you* think others should behave are just as annoying as an over done
political post IMO. Some people here are masters at purposely raising the
ire of others (trolls) and frankly, I consider you one of them at times when
you do this.

Prove me wrong and chill out. Post what you want and expect both praise and
criticism. Stop worrying about everybody else and their behavior and
methods. We can deal with it ourselves.

Good observation. Looking over the topic list for the last few months,
that's all I find.
"Poorly written purple prose advertorials." Several dozen a week. Very
little gets by you, Harry.

Thanks for the friendly advice.

My state of mind is fine. Looks like it's "Gould's an asshole" season
around here the last few days. No big deal, just my turn in the barrel.
Let's let everybody pile on and get their nickel's worth, then it's
back to normal. Funny how suddenly everybody is accusing me of wrecking
the newsgroup. Oh well. I get accused of all sort of stuff, and some of
it is even true sometimes. :-)
