If that ever happens, please give me advance notice. I'll bring the cinder
blocks, chains, and ammo.

You're getting more and more like basskisser all the time.

I don't buy that. History has shown that some of the most brilliant

Name two.

1) James Madison
2) Harry Truman
3) William H. Taft
4) Thomas Jefferson

IMHO you're assuming this as a corollary to a very obvious fact, that
some of the best, most polished, and plausible speakers are not as smart
as they sound.

Sometimes that's true, and sometimes not.

I think the only way to know is to spend time with a person talking
one-on-one on a personal level. That's why Bush is so effective when

he's
meeting with the other World leaders in person.

You mean, effective at making other world leaders mistrust & dislike him?

He seems to have done a pretty good job schmoozing several World leaders
recently...as evidenced by the unanimous UN resolution which Bush was
seeking that was passed yesterday.

BTW thanks for letting me make this point. Good work, comrade!

You're welcome.

If you were a poker player you'd be dropping your cards on the floor.

Only intentionally...and only a few of them...so that you'd *think* you
were getting a good look at my entire hand.

How do you know he's effective under those circumstances? Been there with
him?

I can only go on what others who have met him say about him...and that
includes many folks who *used* to criticize him.

... Go look at what
some of the 9/11 panel members (including the partisan

ben-Veniste)
had
to
say about Bush's performance before their committee.

Uh huh. And do you think that GWB went in front of that committee

and
spoke his mind, with no prep and no rehearsing?

There was grumbling among committee members because Bush told them

he'd
give
them just an hour of his time. I translated that to mean that an hour

is
as
much of an attention span as he could muster.

So to answer your question: no I don't think Bush is a moron for

having
misspoke.

If it was just misusing a word now and then, I'd agree. But he

rambles
like a moron and misuses words constantly. He's actually funnier

than
the people who mimic him... or at least, he would be if it weren't

so
scary that he is actually the President.

Last week, he spewed some nonsense about how if we'd drilled for oil

in
Alaska in the early to mid 1990s, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in

today.
That was the best he could come up with as a solution to our oil

dependency.

That's NPR for you. They conveniently left out where Bush's proposal

calls
for half of the money derived from oil lease sales in Alaska to be spent

on
research and development of alternative energy means.

Bush ties alternative energy research to Arctic drilling money
By SCOTT SONNER
ASSOCIATED PRESS

RENO, Nev. (AP) - President Bush's new budget anticipates $2.4 billion

in
oil lease sales in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by 2005, with

half
the money to be spent to research solar, wind, geothermal and other
alternative energy, an assistant secretary said Friday.

Did the rest of your article mention that 70% of such oil leases have
produced nothing over the past 20 years, and that the ones which *do*
produce are only providing about 3% of our needs?

My point is that your boy needs to come up with a REAL vision, one which
doesn't involve wasting time looking for oil. He has no such vision.

Did any of the last 4 or 5 Presidents? Clinton had 8 years and we're more
reliant on oil today than when he took office.

Stutterers are now referred to as people with fluency problems. But, you
know that, being a doctor & everything, and being well-read on how sometimes
dental and medical problems can be intermingled with speech difficulties. Yu
reed a lott.

The only one on this list who was "brilliant" is Jefferson. And I've
never read that he was a poor speaker, but rather the contrary. Truman
was definitely NOT a poor speaker, else why would his "whistle stop"
campaign tour produce such good results?

Taft? You gotta be kidding. I have no doubt he was an intelligent man,
but "one of the most brilliant"??? And what is the evidence that he was
a notably poor speaker?

Madison could be considered brilliant if he weren't standing in the same
room with either Jefferson or Franklin (or for that matter, Hamilton, or
for that matter, Burr). But again, whence comes any intimation that he
was a poor speaker?

Sorry, Nobby, no cigar. Not even close.

If we had followed Carter's initiatives we might now be energy
independent. Instead, over the past 25 years we have burned up @25% of
the worlds total oil reserves.

Of course we would. Afterall, bankrupt countires don't need oil and gas.
