With my fingers, I will poke your eyes out. Take a good look at my face. I'm an Oriental." Jackie Chan--"They Still Call Me Bruce" (1987) Remember what I told you earlier about my having about 40 years more education than you? You've just provided a perfect example of why I said that. You do NOT get an accurate view of the world from movies. Oh, come on...you can't be intimating that Nobby should read serious books... I don't think "They Still Call Me Bruce" was offered in written format. I'll be sure to check next time I'm at my local library. You know, despite your absolute ignorance, social ineptitude, bad manners and political incorrectness, I'd still go fishing with you and possibly let you examine my toofs. Even though you really are an asshole. Top that. If that ever happens, please give me advance notice. I'll bring the cinder blocks, chains, and ammo. You guys sure have funny ways of catching fish up north. I was referring to the possibility of it being a one way trip for you. No kidding. |
OT-- Is GWB really a moron or does he just play one on TV?

History has shown that some of the most brilliant people were very poor speakers. It is the same mentality that assumes stutters are stupid. Of course, it's natural to assume that people who mangle words when speaking publicly are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Afterall, they don't exactly sound "smart" when they're butchering their native language. I had to do speech theraphy when I was young......I was scoring off the charts on standardized tests, but teachers could barely understand me.....apprently I was thinking to fast and my mouth could not keep up :-) I think the only way to know is to spend time with a person talking one-on-one on a personal level. That's why Bush is so effective when he's meeting with the other World leaders in person. ... Go look at what some of the 9/11 panel members (including the partisan ben-Veniste) had to say about Bush's performance before their committee. Uh huh. And do you think that GWB went in front of that committee and spoke his mind, with no prep and no rehearsing? Yes. So to answer your question: no I don't think Bush is a moron for having misspoke. If it was just misusing a word now and then, I'd agree. But he rambles like a moron and misuses words constantly. He's actually funnier than the people who mimic him... or at least, he would be if it weren't so scary that he is actually the President. BTW thanks for letting me make this point. Good work, comrade! You're welcome. |

IMHO you're assuming this as a corollary to a very obvious fact, that some of the best, most polished, and plausible speakers are not as smart as they sound. I think the only way to know is to spend time with a person talking one-on-one on a personal level. That's why Bush is so effective when he's meeting with the other World leaders in person. You mean, effective at making other world leaders mistrust & dislike him? BTW thanks for letting me make this point. Good work, comrade! You're welcome. Why don't you try running the term "Oriental" by the next few Asians you meet and see sort of reaction you get? Here's a neat link, Doug. The term "Oriental" rates a big, fat ZERO on the "disparagement scale" of the "Offensiveness Quotient". Look at the definition of "oriental" in ANY on-line dictionary (we know you don't own a printed one). The definition meaning "Asian person" is ALWAYS indicated as offensive. Always. Not he http://www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/Oriental Oh, yes they are! The Webster definition "there" is from a 1913 dictionary, which is now badly out of date. The other one there explicitly says, "for people of South and East Asian ancestry the term `Asian' is preferred to `Oriental'" You stupid ****. or here http://www.thefreedictionary.com/oriental%20person Oh, yes it does! If you click on "Oriental" in the list of synonyms, it says *exactly* what the one above does: "for people of South and East Asian ancestry the term `Asian' is preferred to `Oriental'". or here http://www.wordiq.com/dictionary/oriental.html Oh, yes it does! The same again. ALLLLLLL your citations say "for people of South and East Asian ancestry the term `Asian' is preferred to `Oriental'". In fact, I cannot find anything on the net that refers to the use of the word Oriental as offensive. Yes, you can: you already have. Here are a couple mo 3 often capitalized, sometimes offensive : ASIAN http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionar...iental&x=0&y=0 n. often Oriental Often Offensive. Stuttering (now referred to as "fluency" by speech pathologists) is an entirely different symptom, per my ex wife, who's been an SLP for about 17 years. It's as connected with Bush's situation as fish are to bicycles. |

Did the rest of your article mention that 70% of such oil leases have produced nothing over the past 20 years, and that the ones which *do* produce are only providing about 3% of our needs? My point is that your boy needs to come up with a REAL vision, one which doesn't involve wasting time looking for oil. He has no such vision. |
