Who was that 'great American' who said "stupid is as stupid says"?
Any idea Bert?

And, who was "the great Canadian," never mind there isn't one.

Um...that's not true.

Alexander Graham Bell (telephone) was Canadian and Frederick Banting
(insulin) right off the top of my head.

James Naismith was a Canadian. He invented basketball.
Colleen Dewhurst, the great actress.

Mike Meyers, John Candy, Captain James Tiberius Kirk, Robert Goulet,
Lorne Greene - a whole panaoply of Canadians have fled the Great White
North to take advantage the economy here in the US.

Let's face it folks, Canada would be much better off if it just
recognized the fact that it's a suburb of the US and just join up and
get it over with.

Just think, it would be the largest state in the Union if it did. :)

That's good because it was said tongue-in-cheek. :)

I like Canada and I used to have a connection up there who would give
me one hell of a deal on Cuban Cheroots when I still smoked cigars.

I think it's the natural Anglo/Frence antagonism. The French have
always been an arrogant bunch. :)

I know Bert was just funnin' and since there are so many Canadian
inventors etc... I'll just throw a few Nova Scotians at him.
SIR STANFORD FLEMMING set up the worlds system of standard time and
time zones
JOSEPH HOWE fought for and received the first responsible gov't in
the British Commonwealth
fought for and won freedom of the press in Canada
By the way, we have to share BELL with Brampton , Ontario and the US.
When in Cape Breton (each summer) he did invent the hydrofoil and one
winter his plane made the first power flight in the British Empire on
the Bras d'Or Lakes.
Lets not for get good ole Halifax boy, SAMUEL CUNARD who started the
Cunard Steamship company and the White Star Line.
ABRAHAM GESNER inventor of kerosene
etc..etc..
if interested see...

We like to think we're the way the US could & should be.
Maybe we could make changes from within.

A number have never gotten over the big loses they endured in the
1700's. They actually controlled from here all the way down to the Gulf
Coast before the your colonists and British beat them.

I've never understood the enmity some US citizens have for Canada, and
no, I'm not referring to Tom and his comment. We've got a few folks
here, Robbins being one of them, who seem to have a burning hatred for
Canada and Canadians.

You couldn't ask for a better neighbor than Canada, a free, democratic,
Western nation, a reliable ally, a place where US citizens are welcome.
I've been going to Canada for pleasure and business since I was seven
years old (my dad bought wood boats from Nova Scotia back then, and I
got to go with him on a couple of trips), I've been to Canada dozens of
times, and I love going there.

Most Canadians and Americans can and do get along just fine. We even
have a certain yahoo factor out in Alberta that Bert would warm up to.
The Acadian French in this area are are a warm friendly people and close
relatives of your Cajuns. That's why I find it funny when Bert or
someone else trashes all Canadians...we're almost as diversified as
south of the border. If Bert doesn't like a sensible Maritimer, he
might love a brash hard drinking Calgarian.

Don, have you heard anything recently about my favorite Canadian singer,
Ian Tyson?

I was really concerned during his recent serious illness, but I've heard
he made a recovery. Is he performing live again?

I was trying to remember if he was involved in the 'Live Aid'? concert
from Barrie Ontario last weekend. His web site says he is fine.
haven't read anything in the local papers.
