Nice. I understand that there are some people who can listen to that
without thinking of Bo Derek. :-)

In the brass section one of the guys is playing a four-valve trumpet.
I've heard of them but have never seen one being used before.

I played trumpet, and throwing in an extra valve would have been a big
pain.

Yup, I'se one. I didn't know Bo Derek was in a movie named 'Bolero' until just now. I'm wondering
where I was in 1984 when that came out. (I looked it up on You Tube.) Hell, I was right here working
at the Army Personnel Center. Too damn busy to go to the movies, I reckon.

"There is no music in it," Ravel wrote. But it does build to an
overloud, schmaltzy climax, which is why, I assume, why Herring likes it.

How many 'whys' does it take?

I noticed the four valves, and wondered what the instrument was. I'd never heard of a four-valve
trumpet. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Actually, I like the whole piece.

"Patients with dementia can be extremely sensitive to their environment; in general, a moderate level of stimulation is best. When they experience overstimulation, increased confusion or agitation may result..."

Well I'll be damned. I suppose that explains his aversion to a forte' passage in music. His
narcissism would demand he call this to everyone's attention and castigate anyone not so averse.

Actually the movie that made Bolero and Bo famous was called "10", as
in a perfect 10. It came out in 1979 and was a fun little movie with
some memorable scenes.
