I'm sure that when rec.boats again deteriorates into its usual morass of personal name-calling, you'll be among those who claim "others" are responsible. |

Police said that two couples began arguing before a showing of "Lone Survivor" over one couple's text messaging. A male suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, became angry and took out a gun and shot the other couple, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's office. "The victim was on his cellphone, he was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation," Sheriff Chris Nocco said, according to ABC News affiliate WFTS. "During that altercation, the suspect decided to pull out a .380 and he shoots the victim." The sheriff's office said in a statement that an unnamed "good Samaritan" helped detain the suspect until police arrived. The two victims were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead and the woman is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to police. The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. today at the Cobb Grove 16 Theater in Wesley Chapel, Fla., north of Tampa. Police noted that the shooter and victims did not appear to know one another. http://tinyurl.com/obwfh6b The shooting suspect is in police custody. Well, that didn't take long. So much for the new, improved rec.boats. All my restraint didn't help a bit, did it? Do we have to give him yet another chance? Perhaps you should take charge and publish a list of what topics are allowed here and what topics are not. I thought there was general agreement to avoid personal name-calling here, and to avoid initiating partisan political discussions. The post I put up is neither personal nor partisan political. It's fine with me if you want this newsgroup to avoid discussions about firearms and other apparently volatile subjects. List away. The title of your post, "Obviously, he was standing his ground.", is the politically inflamatory part. Do you really not understand that? Of course you do, or you wouldn't have written it. I take this as confirmation that Republicans are responsible for Stand Your Ground. Cool. I was hoping some fool would step up and take responsibility. Did you see this? "According to multiple reports, the shooting occurred after an apparent argument over an audience member texting during a screening of "Lone Survivor." The suspect was identified as Curtis Reeves, a retired Tampa police officer, according to News 13. He has been charged with second-degree murder." The pohlice. Floriduh. Yup. I wonder if the lawyer Reeves hires will claim that the guy who was shot dead verbally threatened the ex-cop, and that the shooting was therefore justified. |

So much for the new, improved rec.boats. What? It wasn't political, nor was it insulting to any poster here. It was...an example of evolution in action. The shooter apparently felt threatened by the guy who was texting. Perfectly understandable. The texter should have known better. There was another example of evolution in Chicago. Some moron dropped his cell in the Chicago river and apparently went in after it, and he and a girlfriend, at least, drowned. America is drowning in its own stupidity. Another attack on Americans? Why? -- Hope you're having a spectacular day! |
