Few of the old crowd still around...and that's sad. Ganzy's witch hunt really chased away the fun. Oh well.... Heart of Gold is still sailing of course and her crew has been having a blast. With Thomas about to turn four we've been spending more weekends on the boat and making short trips. Next season we plan to make two week- long trips. The great news is how much he loves the boat. It's among his favorite activities, so I feel we've done a good job in making him part of the fun. The sacrifice was short sails and fewer nights aboard. Now he demands to go sailing! Cheers, everyone! As the 2008 season here wraps up I hope you all have gotten some sailing in. Robert B 35s5 NY |

There's almost 2 1/2 months left before November according to my calendar. We just did a mini 3 day cruise spent mostly anchored in Mattituck Inlet and exploring the area by dinghy. Great area for photography. You could get there in two reasonably short days, with a stopover in Pt Jeff. |

OzOne of the three twins I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace. ** Posted fromhttp://www.teranews.com** Indeed we were planning on a barely used C&C 121, but we decided to hold off. The 35s5 is really a lot of fun and we certainly don't make use of her comforts since we rarely stay aboard more than a weekend. Thomas has a time-limit and we try to adhere to it. We've now seen a LOT of families with kids who are not too hip on being aboard. The few success stories we've seen were folks who didn't force it on their kids and we've tried to do the same. Thomas asks to go sailing, but we usually don't keep him out longer than he wants. Keep him wanting more is the MO! It's working as now he often asks to sleep aboard as well. So a upgrade is on hold. I added a beautiful 140% cruise-radial genoa and am still flying the kevlar main. I still use the smaller pentax- mylar on days where it's really blowing. As she is now, only J-boats pass me and none-to-quickly. We're having a lot of fun and when winds are light and the boat slows, Thomas yells, "What's the hold up?!" RB 35s5 NY |

How's life in the Bronx with that skank wife these days Boobie? Have you found a job yet or are you still making big bucks dumpster diving at that poluted marina? Wow....well I'm sailing in two hours, Loco. And my sweet boy will be joining me. I just added a light weight Genoa (a cruise-radial) to my boat and today will be good to experiment with it. I've sailed a lot this summer, but a 3rd of it has been on other boats. We hooked up with some local sailors with kids, so there's been a lot of boat time not always aboard Heart of Gold. In addition I'm sure you'd like to see my mostly completed theater with HD sources and 120 inch screen. It's utterly film quality and looks better than most small to mid size theaters. Sound is perfect! http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p3696847-5.jpg As I'm sure you're wondering, the cost of the whole theater was under 20K. Last night we watched The Mist and tomorrow it will be Nightmare Before Christmas for Thomas on Blu-Ray. I'm running two projectors at 1080 and 720. Sound is via Magnepan and SVS speakers with Hybrid tubes and so on...all high end, better for music than HT though. Ah, I'm sure you want to know how I'm doing with fast cars. Well, I got stung after driving a Nissan GT-R. What a car! But it's close to 100K for one and they are all gone for the year. So I'm on the list with our dealer in New Rochelle for the following shipment at 10% invoice. Still, to do that I'll wait at least a year. Meanwhile, to keep my skills up I've ordered a sweet Exo X GSR in Graphite Gray Pearl. Car looks like this.... http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v0/p881008607.jpg I'm sure you've never driven a car with AYC, but you should. It handles better than any other sedan and bests a Cayman S or M3 in cornering. At just under 300 HP it's slow. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. But my car will go to Ivey tuning for a small tune to 390. That will bring her into 4.3 range and better 1/4 miles. But with low end grunt at that point the car is just wonderful. I drove one with 440 HP, but it was a bit too much and I'd like to clutch to last me until I get the GT-R. Two other cars I considered were the Lotus Exige, which I had to drop due to leg room and no back seats. The 911 AWD turbo was in the mix (a 2005 model) but amazingly it's legroom for tall drivers is poor. The Evo is a great fit for now. Thomas is growing up fast and having a great time aboard and at our home in the woods. Other than that things are great. I hope they are well with you as well. I'm sailing aboard a 56 foot cutter rigged sloop, but I'll be aboard helping to install a shower sump before we hoist. I'll also be at the yard EVERY day this week doing surveys. I'm easy to find and I'd be happy to sail against anyone who comes along. We sailed yesterday with the new genoa and passed everything under sail...until we met a big Swan. I've love to see a picture of a big, expensive car parked in front of your house. Make sure the house is in the photo. Why? The most expensive car I currently own a lightly modded Subaru Turbo LGT sedan.....only around 30K, so hardly expensive.... http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p525689812-5.jpg The new Evo coming soon is just 41K, again not all that expensive. I suppose when the GT-R comes that's pretty pricey, but still not what I'd call crazy. I've posted pics of my house in NY before. I also own nearby lakefront property with partners. Sure, I've done better than Sloco on every front, but why is that important to you. Someone always has better fortune. My camera gear bought in the last 24 months cost more than Sloco's poor dated tub of a boat. Going sailing....see ya! The Good Captain 35s5 NY |

Have you driven one? I was lucky enough to have a go of a pre release one and I can assure you it's spectacular and even more impressive than the IX. Sold my IX while it was still a current mdel and bought a Mitsu Legnum VR4 as a stopgap. It has the same drivetrain as the Evo8 IIRC powered by a twin turboed 2,5L V6.... and is a whole lot of fun for a wagon!! Cheers, The Good Captain, AKA RB Heart of Gold City Island, NY Hey Bubbles, I too have ordered an EvoX, still waiting for their release here in Oz which was originally touted for April...then August...and still I wait, probably because they are struggling to supply these fantastic cars to the US market. OzOne of the three twins I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace. ** Posted fromhttp://www.teranews.com** Hey, Ozzy! How ya been? I've driven both the GSR and MR. I chose the GSR 5 speed because I know for a fact the tranny is tougher. Having said that I will admit that the SST automatic almost caught me. I've driven some very high end automatics and the SST in the Evo X MR is soooo good that I could live with it happily. Much of the time I had to admit that the damn thing was doing a better job than I could and I'm pretty quick with a clutch. Still, my car is getting a flash tune and I'm worried that the MR tranny really isn't all that tough. It's also nearly impossible to service, so I rather go through a clutch than a whole tranny. The car IS amazing. My buddy drives a AWD 911 Turbo and in spite of that car's power advantage, the Evo seems to make high speed cornering even better...and it's got two extra doors and back seats. After the small mod to the computer my Evo will have 370 HP. The stock tune is pretty weak. I drove one with the mod and it was far better...quicker to be sure. I'm getting it with Navigation, Fosgate audio and the Aero/SSS package. I was angry that the GSR had no leather option, so I've arranged for the install of the European Mitsubishi leather for another 1300 bucks. The standard cloth is not very good. You'll love it...a truly great car to drive and Thomas fits in the back seat! The Good Captain 35s5 NY |

MR will suit me better as I still do a little racing on weekends so the better springs, dampers and two piece disks will suit. There is talk that the leather trim will be std on the MR when released here so they've made a note that I'll take it if available..if not the cloth will have to do. If you don't get the color you like you can always have it repainted by a high end paint shop. If you're going low end by chosing cowhide seats don't settle for anything less than Galluser leather. I prefer boar's hide for seats myself. The durability is second to none, I use it on the seats and grips of my Schleicher ASH25. |

The MR gets leather for certain, but I don't know if you'll get the US or European leather package. The GSR suspension is a bit better than the MR stock, but the MR brakes saves a bit of weight. MR's appeared to have a tiny advantage on the track, but that's slowly changing now. I found the MR noticeably softer, but a good trade off for daily driving. And you can always tune a suspension. A GSR will always be faster off the line of course, but it takes a LOT of skill to shift the GSR as well as the SST does for you on twisty roads. I just got back from my dealer and we're buying the Evo and a new Outlander as well. I'm still torn between the Rally Red and the Graphite Gray. BTW, the Rockford Fosgate audio system may be the best stock stereo I ever heard and the Navigation and music server system works great as well. R. |

In '78 color displays were so uncommon that we didn't pass around picture files, we photographed the screen, usually with Polaroids, but 35mm for publication. Each little red dot is actually one x-ray photon, focused by a "grazing incidence mirror system." Magic! This picture was one of the first we got of a nearby galaxy showing individual x-ray sources, so it caused quite a stir.
