The Craft system gave way to the Guild system when advancing technology made crafts to difficult for one to learn on his own. Then the Guild system morphed into capitalism when advancing technology made tools too expensive for individual craftsmen to own. And advancing technology has been eating away at Capitalism for nearly a century. Automation gradually replaces the workers who both create and consume products, but what happens when automation replaces them all? They cannot buy without wages and there can be no profits without sales; so capitalism will collapse. Question is, what will replace it? Socialism? Communism? Something new? The only thing that's certain is that automation will bit by bit destroy our existing system. Even burger-flipping will get automated. Then what will all the MBAs do? |

Capitalism has been around longer than the guilds, in fact the medieval guilds (some of which are properly referred to as Craft Guilds) were a reaction to the tendency of bankers & moneylenders to control their trades. ... When do you think this will happen? What sort of groceries should I stock up on? ... Question is, what will replace it? No, the question is where do you get this stuff. ....
