And the marina nuts take advantage of the situation it seems. $1500 to roll on
some bottom paint!

Oh yeah, wanting to be careful with hazardous chemicals, especially ones
that are deliberately formulated to kill marine life, is *definitely*
environ-nut-ism.

The sooner we go ahead and destroy the environment, the sooner we we can
quite wasting time & money trying to preserve it... the official
Bush-Cheney policy, right?

I'll cut them some slack on the environmental issues, because I tend
to worry about the environment myself. Then again, I see these same
guys spraying Imron outside without so much as a mask on and I have to
wonder just how careful they are being. I will say that old Jose, who
paints bottoms day in and day out seems to be well covered up and
protected and I don't envy him that job. I am fairly certain that
their motivation is strictly "captive market/bottom line" oriented.

Frankly, in fresh water, I wonder just how much enviro-nastiness we
really need as all we are really protecting against is slime, and even
the CSC on the bottom of my boat isn't really all that effective
against that.

They are not anti-environment. They just don't let it stand in the
way of making a buck.

Particularly since under your economic analysis old Jose works for free.

While you may balk at the idea of doing an honest day's work in the
boatyard, I don't mind it. A day or two working on the bottom of my
boat for something over $1,000 in savings seems like a good deal to
me.

Heck yeah. Of course, you can understand why the guy who otherwise is
going to pocket that $1,000 bucks probably thinks of it as a cost

I couldn't agree more. Matter of fact that's what I've been doing every
weekend for the last 6 weeks. My point was that your earlier message
suggested that $1500 was gouging because the only cost to the marina
operator was for a couple of gallons of paint. That was a gross distortion.

No, I was suggesting that $1,500 for applying a couple of gallons of
bottom paint was excessive. I wasn't suggesting that the fair value
of the task was $300, which approximates the cost of the paint.

IOW, that's what you _meant_ to say?

Jeez louise... Just what was so difficult about..

"They also have had a long-standing prohibition against a boat
owner doing any bottom work, although that may be becoming more common
around the country for environmental reasons. Still it seems a bit of
a gouge to have to pay the $1,500 for a bottom job involving a couple
of gallons on bottom paint. "

Do you really believe the term "bottom job" is vague to anyone in this
group who owns a boat? I specified "a couple of gallons of bottom
paint" to give some idea as to the scope of the work. I am not
talking about a boat that is 80' LOA, I am talking about a 34' boat,
that requires a day or two, start to finish. I am simply pointing out
that I object to being forced to pay what I consider to be an
excessive amount for a relatively simple, unskilled task that most
boat owners undertake year in and year out. For some reason, you
appear to be the defender of practices which most of us conseder to be
"screw jobs". One can only wonder why. All in a day's work?

Oh good grief..... give it up will you! If I got Nick's name wrong is was
an honest mistake.... that does not in any way alter my belief that he
placed himself in harm's way and unfortunately suffered a horrible death.
He's NOT a hero! He's a Victim! Lot's of people die every day in far worse
manners. You seem to be so susceptible to media input as to allow it to
alter your common sense.... typical blind patriotism that got your country
backing a President that had the Bin Ladens as close personal friends and
bank rolling George's Company "Arabusto" only a few years ago.

Really Loco... you can't be that blind as to realize that this entire action
against Irag was just so wrong... at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons
and at your own expense... please tell me you are not that blind.... for
Gawd's sakes man it's a known fact that the Bush and Bin Ladens have been in
"Bed" for years!

Now you claim to be crying "Crocodile Tears" for a person exploiting the
situation????? Get a friggin Grip Man!!
