Capt. Mooron July 21st 03 01:24 AM

Excuse Me Bob but....

All my halyards are run to the cockpit.....

| After making the mooring pendant fast one walks to the mast and cast
| off both the main and jib halyards and both sails fall right down.
|
| Poor Katy would have to drop the main with the jenny slapping her
| across the head and shoulders and then go back to the cockpit to
| roll up the stupid wind up sail. Sooooo lubberly, don't cha know?

Neal,
We had our 22 on a mooring....had hank-on/hank-off sails....Been there...done that....moved on to bigger and better things,
which is what most successful people do. You just sit there in your little pit of stagnation and pretend you have a life.

If it was a shag pile covered ball he would get very excited Kook.

Excuse Me Bob but....

Because one picks up a mooring at the bow and one
has to walk past the mast to the cockpit in order to
roll up the jenny and then one has to walk forward
again to the mast to drop the main. This is lubberly.

Any real sailor does his sail work at the mast.

Why couldn't she just let off the genoa sheets roll it up and then drop
the main?

Excuse Me Bob but....

I know what goes on. I've sailed enough to see it time and
time again. Usually there is a lot of hollering and screaming
going on while the mooring procedure takes place. At least
I gave you credit for being a little better than that.

Of course it's easy. You stand up on the bow with the
boat hook and pick up the mooring while your husband
does all the helmsmanship required to make it easy for
you.

You have some very odd ideas some times.....

about working at the mast to raise and lower both sails.
It's the proper way and has stood the test of time.

Excuse Me Bob but....

According to Simp, going to the foredeck and back to the cockpit and then to
the mast is too much moving about and lubberly, and not going forward at all is
not enough moving about and is lubberly, but going to the mast and then forward
and back is just right and seamanlike. Apparently, his rigidity in seamanship
makes up for a lack of it elsewhere.

It is unsafe in a rough sea...

Skitch, please let us know when you've acquired a boat.

Excuse Me Bob but....

Never
used the winch on the mast?

No reason to....we have a Francespar boom which is fully rigged with all sorts of little goodies...we have a vang and the
appropriate hardware for it (clutches for reefing line, outhaul, topping lift) Have used it for the downhaul a couple of
times......we have two coach top winches that we use for the halyards....main can be set as tight as we want from the ciach top
winch without having to go up and yark at the mast....If your boat was rigged with any type of equipment at all you wouldn't
have to rely on antiquated methods to sail....
