I saw Nagin being interviewed today as they prepare for Gustav. He
basically blamed the residents for the Katrina disaster.
Wonder if he'll be re-elected again. Or does anybody down there
care? What a piece of work he is.

Before Katrina, the feds warned New Orleans (run by that Dem genius

Under the pre-Katrina hurricane plan, Nagin had authority,
responsibility AND the means (those flooded buses) to evacuate the
city. A year before Katrina He had attended a conference on this very
topic where he agreed on this. Safe evacuation areas had been pre-
decided. His failure to follow the plan that his office drew up is
criminal. In addition, the Gov of a state (at least in LA and FL) has
the authority to order such an evac. Blanco did not until she was
almost ordered to do so by Bush. Now Brownie was a bozo but that does
not excuse the criminal negligence by Nagin and Blanco.

I have spent a lot of time in NO over the years and even before
katrina it was the filthiest city in North America. My main memory of
NO is the smell of raw sewage and that was several years before
Katrina.
The problem with NO is that it has the most corrupt pols in the USA.
people in NO are more afraid of the police than they are of criminals.
Nagin refused to order an earluier evac simply because he was afraid
of losing lucrative convention business. He also could have used the
Nat Guard to better prep the Dome and the convention center for
sheltering people but he did not because he was afraid of hurting
business. Nagin and Blanco completely ignored their own hurricane
emergency plan and should be hung from lamp posts on Bourbon St.

executive and governor, and, of course, all that "military experience."

What he didn't have and doesn't have is judgment. and neither does
McCain.

That situation was totally screwed up from the beginning. Seems to me
Bush initially did what he was supposed to ..... make federal help
available, but the operational decisions were left up to local and state
governments, as they should have been. Bush earned the reputation of
being too late to act because the locals dragged their feet. If I
recall correctly, Bush had to *order* them to start an evacuation.

"Chimpenfuhrer" is not a term I've heard before, but it seems apt.
Perhaps your view of the real world is clouded by the number of righties
in here who feel compelled to defend Bush's every failure.

BTW .... I misunderstood your comment above. You are absolutely correct,
