There's something about Herring's sort of aimless hobby-filled
retirement -a type of retirement apparently shared by several posters
here- that would drive me batty. Not having anything to do but engage in
self-indulgent hobbies...seems mindless to me. I don't even like
"vacations" that last more than a week.

That's not it at all. It's the utter mindlessness and laziness of it
that I don't like, as in, "Oh...it's Thursday...it's golf day," instead
of, "Oh...it's Thursday...it's my day to cook meals for the needy down
at the shelter," or tutor some kids, or something like that. Not that
retirees should spend every day helping others, but, if they are
physically able and reasonably well off, I think at least a couple of
days a week devoted to helping those who most need it is the mark of
someone who is not entirely self-indulgent.

My wife asked me this past weekend if I ever intended to "retire." My
answer: "Why would I want to do *that*?"- Hide quoted text -

Mindlessness and laziness? I know many, many people who are retired
and more active than they ever were when working. You must sure have a
miserable life elsewhere if all you want to do is work.

Why don't you take off 1 day a week from rec.boats and volunteer for

Hey, you once pointed someone here to a guys website that was very
informative about DSLR. I'd like to have that if you remember it. I
want to know more about the whole lens length thing versus 35mm slr.

Just curious, how do you libel a sockpuppet?
WAFA claims to know exactly who he is.

I'm posting under my own name. So Harry has to prove his statements
accurate, and he will be given as much time as he needs, under oath,
to do so. If he can't prove the statements accurate, then it's liable
of a real person.

Ask your seeeeeester to email me, and I'll be glad to provide her with
the copies of the 200+ lies you've told about me here, and then ask her
what your chances are with two or three posts of mine, expecially since
the first one you're bitching about stated I was making it up, to show
you that, just as you made lies about me, I could make up lies about you.

Better still, put on your sleep mask and breathe deeply.

Why don't you just post the list of lies to the group Harry?

Hear, hear!!

Why don't the two of you get a room somewhere and answer nature's call?

Just because that's what you, JimH and Don do doesn't mean everyone is
like that.

** Good Day! **

As I said, I'm just a simple country boy. You need to explain things
more fully, or I don't understand them. Assuming by "everyone" you mean
all 300 million or so Americans, That could come to as much as, uh let
me see... Wait a minute, my calculator doesn't go that high, I need a
pencil... Ah! I get $9 trillion. Sounds like a bargain to me, although I
don't see how it would work. The $600 Bush gave almost everyone only
helped during one quarter.

Exactly where do you expect them to get that money? Should they just
print it up? From what I heard, that would devalue our falling dollar
even more than it is now, and that $3000 would have less power than it
might have. They could borrow it from China or somebody, but wouldn't
that increase the deficit even more? Doesn't sound like a good way to
balance the budget. If I did something lie that, I'd hear nasty things
from my banker. But then, I'm not the government, am I?

Hmmm. I'm not so sure about that one, but we'll put it on the list.
Anybody got any other ideas?

TJ

Where does Obama get the money? From the same place Pelosi or Reid would
get the money. Taxes. Higher taxes. Income redistribution on a grand
scale.

Ya mean like the $1200 that Bush recently sent everybody? Bush simply
borrowed the money from China. He knows you are good for it, or maybe
your children and grandchildren will settle up...

Bush sent me nothing, and I'm part of everybody.

No, tax cheats who don't file a return, are part of a smaller
sub-group.

Don't I wish I was a non-filer!

Obama will tax those who have some to give to those who have less. He will
do this as long as it buys votes. Once the have-nots realize they will
always be on the bottom of the totem pole, they may change their ways. But,
I believe this will take at least a generation.l
