I have 1998 Bayliner 195 Capri B\R with a Mercruiser 3.0 I/O. It is
leaking oil from behind the v-belt pulley. I am assuming I have a timing cover gasket or harmonic balancer seal issue. My questions a Can I get parts for this from a local auto parts store? Is this the chevy block? I do quite a bit of mechanical work on autos is this something I could do? Does the engine have to be pulled? Any other thoughts are appreicated. |

Yes, you shuold be able to get all repair parts through NAPA for instance. Shouldn't be a problem, and if the engine has lots of hr.s on it, then would be a great time to insect the timing chain/gears, seeing you already have the timing cover off. I haven't looked closely to my 3.0 but the only problem you should really have is working around the front engine mount, and that might not be a big deal. Heck, it's all sitting right out in front of you. good luck! |
