Mercruiser 3.0 I/O Oil leak

I have 1998 Bayliner 195 Capri B\R with a Mercruiser 3.0 I/O. It is
leaking oil from behind the v-belt pulley. I am assuming I have a
timing cover gasket or harmonic balancer seal issue. My questions
a Can I get parts for this from a local auto parts store? Is this
the chevy block? I do quite a bit of mechanical work on autos is this
something I could do? Does the engine have to be pulled? Any other
thoughts are appreicated.

It'll quit leakin if you run it a quart low on oil and load the back of the
boat so the bow sticks up further.

Next problem!

Yes, you shuold be able to get all repair parts through NAPA for
instance. Shouldn't be a problem, and if the engine has lots of hr.s
on it, then would be a great time to insect the timing chain/gears,
seeing you already have the timing cover off.

I haven't looked closely to my 3.0 but the only problem you should
really have is working around the front engine mount, and that might
not be a big deal. Heck, it's all sitting right out in front of you.

good luck!
