Timing on most engines these days is ran by the computer, Smithers. Timing is controlled by various sensors such as temp, ambient temp, knock sensors, etc. |

Timing is controlled by various sensors such as temp, ambient temp, knock sensors, etc. Lots of the engines are also timed via a timing light. Especially an 8 year old model. On my 4.3L S10 you had to pull a wire to disable the computer timing when setting the initial timing. |
