The Samurai made the CJ look like a sportscar
in regards to handling.

Test drove an early Geo Tracker once, same as the Samurai. First
adverse reaction was that the interior space would make the Jeep CJ or
a Honda 600 seem like a Winnebago in comparison. Next adverse reaction
was, in 5th gear, it was turning 3000 RPM at 55 MPH. Commented on this
and the salesman said, "yeah, it's got a lot of power." That pretty
much eliminated my hope of getting into a technical discussion with
him (that high an RPM at such a low highway speed means the
manufacturer acknowledges the engine is lacking in power at lower RPM,
and the transmission has been geared to compensate for it). Next came
the handling test: executing a moderate speed U-turn to return to the
dealership. That was the nail in the coffin. It had the approximate
handling I'd expect of a Rubik's Cube, and come to think of it, the
similarity in appearance was probably not uncoincidental.
