Default Loose Side mount control

Hi,

I have an 85 Supra Saltare. The drivers control is coming loose due to the
screw holes being worn over the years. What is a good way to anchor the
side controls back to the boat? I haven't worked with fiberglass/gel coat
repair kits up to this point.

Would I be better off buying an aftermarket side mount control? They appear
to be much lighter.

Thanks

Saltare

Could you use bolts through the fiberglass?

=====================================

That's the best solution if you can get to the back side of the
mounting panel. Otherwise, you can use oversize hardware, or fill the
old holes with MarineTex and redrill when cured.

Thanks for the quick help, I can't get to the backside, so that "Marinetex"
sounds good.

Thanks

I don't know if they even make these in stainless, but since you can't
get to the backside, how about those spring-loaded toggle bolts like
they use for drywall?

Purchase a set of these isolators. They are designed to expand on the back
side as you tighten down the bolt. No rear access required.

You can probably get them at a hardware store as well.

The Marinetex suggestion is a good one. But you might also want to look at
"JB Weld" because it's more metal-based. I would suggest doing a
side-by-side comparison plugging a hole in a piece of scrap with each, and
then drilling it to simulate what you are really going to do with your
controls.

Good luck!
