No it doesn't, but it *does* illustrate the fallacy in the argument against assault rifles.

What's the fallacy? Aren't assault rifles used for assault?

Not this one.

Why on earth would they call them assault rifles?

Better trained guards and better perimeter control.
Evidently there was no access control once you got through the gate.

The schools here only have one entrance and I think it is locked.

You want schools to hire better trained guards and perimeter control at
the same time they are laying off teachers, eh? Oh and that one entrance
thingie? Schools have glass windows. No problem with a guy with a gun to
shoot his way in.

The so-called semi auto assault rifles are easily converted to full auto
with pieces and parts you can buy on the internet.

Good thing Virginia has plenty of AR-15s for ready sale.

There was no AR 15 there.
It was just a runaway media that does not believe a person can do
anything bad without an assault weapon.

NBC was even using a graphic of a M-16 that had the M203 grenade
launcher under it.

He had a Joe Biden shotgun and they believe the 2 pistols he had were
taken from cops on site.

Well, that makes it all better for the victims and their families.......

It does take a lot of the wind out of the gun control argument. He did
most of the damage with guns he took from the guards. At a certain
point we have to realize, he could have taken the first guard down
with a pocket knife or a stun gun flashlight.

That didn't stop CNN and NBC from running with the AR-15 story all
day. NBC even put a grenade launcher on his rifle.
Piers Morgan was on for his hour saying if we didn't have these
assault rifles, we would not have these killings. I wonder if he will
walk that back.
Naa.

Morgan was also saying that the guy was a contractor with a "top
secret" clearance.
Top secret clearances aren't handed out to low level contractors.

The media gets stumbles over each other to get ratings with some of the
most inaccurate and bizarre "reporting" on the planet.

If I carried my shotgun in my truck, I could blast away guards almost anywhere, including the gates
at Marine Corps Base Quantico.

What's your solution for school safety?

I don't know how things are today but access control to all military
bases used to be by armed military personnel, often Marines.
That changed over the years at bases in what are considered "low
threat" areas and access control has been farmed out to civilian
security firms in many places.

I don't know who checks badges and controls access at the Washington
DC Navy base.

---------------------------

The Ruger 10/22 rifle I recently purchased was originally introduced
back in the 60s. There are many retrofit kits available for it,
including converting it from semi-auto to full auto. Illegal, of
course, but readily available.

(no, I didn't buy it because of this. I didn't know it until after I
bought it and have no plans to convert it)

That is largely a myth, unless you have access to a machine shop.

ATF has required that receivers are made such that they are not easily
adapted to full auto since 1968. That is particularly true of ARs and
AKs. The military parts are not going to work.
It is the same way with my M1A. It would take a bit of work on a
milling machine to get it to accept the selector and associated parts.

----------------------------

I'll repost this link. It's a standard Ruger 10/22 that has been
converted to full auto. I've been told that the conversion is not
difficult but it's illegal to sell the parts. Instead, they sell a
DVD showing how to do it.

Most installations that I've been to now use rentacops. The Marine Base Quantico switches back and
forth. Ft. Belvoir uses only rentacops.

It is on the internet, it must be true

Hell, man, there are or were instructions on making nuclear devices and
experts said some of them were damned close. Turning a semi-assault into
a full assault is chicken soup in comparison.
