number of shooting deaths in this country, and to be pushing for changes
that might lower that number.

So...

The metal detectors and guards did exactly what they were supposed to do... protect the courtrooms from a nutcase coming in with a weapon and shooting the place up. It demonstrates that the idea of similar at schools *would* work. And that seems to be what spun up the OP the most.
