Not a good idea without a Florida Concealed Carry Permit.

The plan was to keep the handgun in the car glovebox. Is a concealed
permit required for that?

Not if it's in a holster. They have some sort of three-step rule. The
glove box would be one, the safety on the gun another, and the snapped
holster #3. I'm not sure how they came up with that.
