gee. you should try to get medical care in the US withut insurance

ever try it?

--------------------------------------------------
Just show up at the emergency room. If you have a MediCal (welfare ) card,
you go to a doctors office. Not all doctors take MediCal but a large bunch
do.
How about facts from the State of California Government.

i'm an EMT. we take lots of cancer and heart patients to the ED.
unfortunately this is because they couldnt get medical care so a
treatable problem turned into an expensive emergency

if they survived at all.

so you're wrong

-----------------------------------------------------
I guess the state of California is wrong. Their statement no mine. And if
you have no assets, you go on welfare. You are probably taking heart and
cancer people to emergency for emergency reasons. Not for normal care.

no, you dont 'go on welfare'. if you are unemployed you dont get ****.
you die.

and you seem not to understand that routine illnesses, left
unattended, often become emergencies...sometimes fatal

There's a myth perpetuated by the right that the gravely ill without
money or health insurance get good treatment by showing up at the ER.
That claim is just plain bull****. All they get, if they get treated at
all, is short term stabilization.

He's just behind the times.
And on Medicare.
Since he gets basically free socialist health care, he doesn't know
the current cost of private market health care.
Closet socialists usually have a lot of blind spots.
And he's a boomer, so he got a lot of gravy.

I know what insurance costs. I have been an employer as well as laid off
over the years. I lived below my means, which gave me a cushion when a job
went away.

a cushion! that's so quaint!

let's see...medical care for an ALS ambulance ride to the hospital
STARTS at $1500, not including meds, O2, any interventions the EMT's
or paramedics do, etc.

THEN you get to the ER where the real fun starts. thousands of dollars
in a few hours

what kind of 'cushion' do people have when they havent had a pay raise
in 20 years?

I worked for a few startups, so closing the doors and no COBRA
available was not that unusual. Sure I am on Medicare now. But that is
only for 2.5 years. I have been retired for 9 years, so for 6.5 years, I
paid my own insurance.

so you're on socialized medicine.

exactly right. we often transport the same people over a period of a
few weeks or even days because of untreatrd problems that were
stablized in the ED

From your posts here, I can understand why you've not had a pay raise in 20 years of employment.

There was a reason, and it wasn't due to Republicans.

So buy a $2000 deductible policy. Then you will have $2k out of pocket, and
the insurance will pick up the rest. And $2k deductible will cut your
insurance premium costs a lot.

So if you have assets they will take them and then you go on welfare. Why
should you get to keep your assets when the public is paying the doctor?
After you lose your job and spent all your money berthing a boat instead of
buying insurance.

Well, some insurance policies may "pick up the rest," and others will
still require the insured to handle co-pays, which may be substantial,
and other medically related expenses, which may also be substantial.

There really are no simple answers for many health care insurance
questions.
