Obama can steer the government into creating or sustaining public sector jobs, and federal agencies can help the private sector be in a better position to create or add jobs or rehire, but the private sector isn't doing anything, despite soaring profits in some segments. It's too bad the "private" economy doesn't work anymore. the logic USED to be that companies would transfer SOME portion of productivity increases to workers in the form of increased wages. this is needed to keep the middle class vibrant and spending. but in the last 30 years, ALL producitivity increases have gone to CEO's and stockholders (the top 10% of weathholders have 90% of stock). that's one principal reason we're in the shape we're in. the wealthy are now reaping what they sowed. |
