I mean, they brag about all the "channels" they offer, and if you want something specific you have to take the :"package" just to get the programming you want, like about 20 so called radio channels, countless home shopping network stations, and a bunch of others you couldn't give a rats hind end for. Wish their was true ala carte TV. What's happening now is you're subsidizing stuff you don't care about. Probably all those big sports salaries is a big part of the cost. On top of that seems there are more commercials than ever, so the cable/dish operators are double-dipping. Wish I could talk my wife into giving up the shows she likes, then I would go cold turkey on cable TV. No chance, won't even try. --Vic |

My ReplayTV (circa 1999) has all the hardware necessary to do this and interface with a regular TV. Sonic Blue got sued into bankruptcy over the internet sharing feature. I can still stream shows between my RTV and any PC on my network. If I could just pull them directly from the producer we wouldn't need networks or cable companies. I was thinking pretty much the same. But the streaming I watch - usually C-Span - sometimes has fits and starts. Something about transmission bits and bytes capability I guess, and could probably be fixed. Aside from that, around here Comcast owns the cable TV and cable internet. Don't think they want to stop billing for both. I recall seeing gov hearings cable ala carte and other cable issues a few years ago. All bull**** that got nowhere. --Vic One of my first cell phones hooked directly to my laptop and became a router to the internet for my browser.. Soon after that they figured out how to seperate the two services and charge for both of them... My cell phone hooks directly to my laptop and if I want to, I can use the cell to dial-up one of my ISP's and get on the internet, albeit slowly. |

For another $10/mo we get a second receiver which we use on the boat. Is Dish really $100/mo. They keep trying to say they are cheaper than cable. I am paying Comcast about $70 for expanded basic, digital starter and HBO. It depends on the package you get and options. Dish ,, the best deal in television. Why is it the best deal in television? Because THEY SAY it is the best deal in television..... |

Looked at Comcast. $29.95 for 6 months and then about $60 plus $13.95 for each extra TV from the get go. Direct from Costco has a better station package, but is about $50 a month for my desires. Will go up to about 60 a month after a year, but you can renew at the $35.95 + extra TV's yearly. |

I have a $3500 automatic tracking antenna on my RV that isn't being used because I'm too cheap to pay for Television. |
