I think the internet is the best chance for ala carte TV. They just
have to get the DRM problem worked out. My ReplayTV (circa 1999) has
all the hardware necessary to do this and interface with a regular TV.
Sonic Blue got sued into bankruptcy over the internet sharing feature.
I can still stream shows between my RTV and any PC on my network.
If I could just pull them directly from the producer we wouldn't need
networks or cable companies.

I was thinking pretty much the same. But the streaming I watch -
usually C-Span - sometimes has fits and starts.
Something about transmission bits and bytes capability I guess, and
could probably be fixed.
Aside from that, around here Comcast owns the cable TV and cable
internet. Don't think they want to stop billing for both.
I recall seeing gov hearings cable ala carte and other cable issues a
few years ago. All bull**** that got nowhere.
