Well, I sent (not personally) a bunch of money to China today. But I'm
still supporting the economy. I helped a local gun dealer get a good
bulk discount. He needed the extra amount to qualify for a 25,000
round purchase .
I'm not a fan of Chinese small arms or ammo, but lots of guys are. I've
seen a couple of interesting Chinese semi-autos, but the stamped out AK
knockoffs, nah.
How much ammo you keep around?
Well, I'd say I have about 7-8000 rounds of 7.62x39, Cheap shooting.
The SKS's are crude looking, simple yet effective for what they are
but have some really neat features you don't find on about anything
else, like a chrome lined bore (fights corrosion) a bayonet that is
more than a toad sticker, it can be pressed into the ground and used
as a monopod and they're very dependable, and danged cheap rifles to
own shoot. But true, they don't win the beauty prize.
I have over 3000 rd of 5.56 (223) and at least 1000 rd of 357, 44, and
45 in each caliber, and I'm not sure but I think I have about 1500 in .
303 Brit. and about 500 is 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. I'm not sure Harry,
but I'd have to see what I've got in 30-06, .308, .30 carbine and .
243, not counting various various shotgun shells.
Crikey...You have a lot more ammo around than I have... :)
Well, That's just from buying too much on sale over the years...

Same here. Several years ago when everyone was selling ammo cheap, I
loaded up. It turns out to be one of my best investments.I ended up
with a bunch of 7.62x51still sealed in the 200 round NATO battle
packs

That's pretty well what I've done with 7.23x39 being the best buy I
mean .07c a shot? and most other bulk caliber rounds I've got were
about .15c a round.

But man, .22's have even gone up. I cleaned up my dad's old Winchester
model 74 which takes .22 short only. they're kind of hard to find in
my area but i got some. $7.70 for a box of 100! Not need to reminisce
about old timer days when they were a buck-fifty for a box of 50
either...

Natchez usually has better prices:

http://www.natchezss.com/ammo.cfm?co...ammoSize= 198

I usually order ammo with a couple of friends, and we split the shipping
fee, which isn't that bad when I just order for myself.

I use CCI's Blazer mini-mag .22LR, about $5 for a plastic box of 100.
Haen't seen a .22 short in years.

The best I did on military stuff was about 15c a round on some
Argentine but I did get some of that "China Sport" copper washed steel
case for around 9c but you get what you pay for. That is really
appropriate for shooting beer cans or such but it seems pretty
inconsistent in the casual shooting I have done with it. I bet a group
of 7" at 100yds might not be a bad guess.

I don't know. I've most of my "chi-com" is military ball, and in the
steel casing and it's been a while, but now my curiosity is up. I'll
have to grab an SKS and bench it and see what pattern it will do at
200 yd. I think it groups tighter than that, but I'll do that when the
weather clears up a bit.

It's kind of a giggle to see that "conservatives" are buying Commie
firearms and Commie ammo.

Well, concerning .22 short. This isn't a "main-stay" fire arm, but I
wanted a couple hundred rounds for it.

i realize that an SKS isn't a Dragunov

http://www.kitsune.addr.com/Firearms...iper_Rifle.gif

And a 7.62x39 isn't near what a 7.62x54r is , but I still think
they'll group better than 7" at 100'

But a couple years ago, I went dear huning with a SKS and used Norma
brand hollow -point and it dropped deer really well. in the 2-250 yd.
range.

The deer made good sausage too!
