When we got it, Ford and GM didn't make a mid-sized SUV with similar tow capacity, as I recall, and, of course, I wouldn't take a Chrysler product on a bet, not with those old-tech pushrod engines. That was almost six years ago, though. I haven't stayed "current" with what is being offered by Ford or GM these days. In fact, I'm not really that interested in cars these days. I do think Ford and GM would be better off, as would their workers, if good foreign management took over there, management from Japan or Korea. with buyouts for the current organized employees, and a new unionized deal for new hires, with a quality "national" health care plan so the employers aren't burdened with that. I have no faith in U.S. corporate management and its B-school mentality. Your lack of faith is apparent. GM is Better off in chapter 11 with no bailout money. Pay the union members off with 10 cents per benefit dollar and lock out the unions permanently. Executive bonus should be tied to profit. Worker bonus and pay should be tied to individual productivity. Simply put. "Earn your pay" Executive bonuses should be paid out 5 years later. He said that even if GM received the full requested government bailout ... *plus* an additional 50-75 billion that he figured will be necessary in the future, GM will still be an insolvent, bankrupt company. Which is why the debate about whether or not to allow them to fail is so absurd. The point is that they have already failed, big time. The debate now should be about how to deconstruct and see if some sort of Phoenix can rise from the ashes. Under the right circumstances, I believe such a re-birth is possible and would have a reasonable chance of success. RG I agree 100%. At first blush many people think of "saving jobs" which is nice, but not reality. Those jobs have already been doomed, bailout or no bailout, economic meltdown or no economic meltdown. Eisboch Where were the bailouts when thousands lost their jobs when World Com and Enron folded. Probably as many jobs lost as GM would suffer. We survived. Maybe they will bailout enron and Worldcom retroactively. And no one is bailing out main street's 401k. Makes me wonder who is really calling the shots at the top. Harry, It looked like you have a nice home and yard. Why do you feel that it was necessary to make your average size driveway into a 3/4 mile driveway and take a photo of them paving your road and pretend it was your driveway? You also talked about how long it took you to mow your 5 acres of lawn with a riding mower. I really think I could have mowed your small lawn with a push mower in less than 20 minutes. |
