Castro has resigned,,, ok,, how will this effect us.. the sailboat crowd ??
It is obvious that change is coming to Cuba. The old Communists are
retiring. Soon,, who knows. I've flown over Cuba a couple of times. It is a very beautiful island. And all that warm, blue sea. And those harbors! With no marina's! I would love to sail to Havana. And I'm sure I'm not alone. From what I've read, there have been boaters going to Cuba for years, although it is illegal. Soon it will be legal! Viva la Cuba .. !!! What a trip... down the coast, stop at some keys,, a little Key West and then Set the sails... we are heading to Havana! |

It is however illegal to spend dollars in Cuba under regulations of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury. Individuals have been dancing around these regulations in many ways for many years. -- Good luck and good sailing. s/v Kerry Deare of Barnegat http://home.comcast.net/~kerrydeare |

I don't think you could repeat it under the present restrictions ... You are probably right. I know I myself wouldn't take chances these days considering the large effort in place to track and control yachts in and around Cuba. The stakes are simply too large and the deck is stacked. If you encounter a military vessel with large guns pointing at you, you obey first and "take actions" later. Too bad that this much effort is essentially wasted on a trivial point, when there are so many other issues unaddressed. -- Good luck and good sailing. s/v Kerry Deare of Barnegat http://home.comcast.net/~kerrydeare |

Marvelous sailing there! The social schedule was a bit hectic though. I hear that the new management has changed everything and gotten an entirely different clientele Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Ever considered emigrating from CT to CA? Oh, wait a minute. What about Cuba as your permanent home? That would solve the problem. I look forward to sailing to Cuba. It's at the top of my list of places I'd like to visit. The day may not be that far off when it becomes possible. Fidel's brother is pretty old, and the Bush administration is greased and ready to slide out of Washington. You would realize that there was change in the air if your stinky smoking habit didn't obscure it. :') Count me in as a Cuba bound sailor... I cant' wait. Beautiful beaches, the music, the food... The Cuba issue is just one more reason our country SUCKS. We spend Billions in China, but if you live in Miami you can't visit Cuba? Dah? Couple of days ago, our stupid president,,, the dumbest moron who has ever held the highest office in the US ... recogized Kosovo as a country! Kosovo? An independent country? The village idiot tells Kosovo it is now an independent country, no problem. But 90 miles from Key West there is an island, big one,, Cuba .. and we Americans can't visit? Why? Tell me one reason it is ok to go spend money in communist Vietnam, a country we actually fought a war in,, and left with out asses kicked .. yet I can't take my F'n sailboat to Cuba. How about telling the village idiot that it isn't 1960. Yo,, George .. get the F.. out! Go back to Texas and get drunk. Take you little drunken daughters with you! And the drunken dog. When kids one hundred years from now study history, they will turn to the chapter .. "The end of the United States" The first sentence will start "Led by a corrupt, stupid, drunken, moron, ...... " |
