Those things are absolute junk. Not worth having on board. The field
of vision is so small you might as well look through a 1/4 inch tube. This is clearly someone who hasn't used much NightVision. FOV is actually wider on the NightOwl. I've used new Gen 4. The main difference is that the Gen 4 provides far better detail and usable range. For boating a good gen 1 from Night Owl or Newcon will give you 600-1000 feet of very illuminated night vision, capable of showing objects in the water, moorings and so on. I tested several of these units. While the Gen 3/4 are awesome, the average coastal sailor will be fine with a generation 1. RB |

Anyone had experience with the Tasco NV150L, the one that is "self powered"?
It is a gen 1 scope and really, really small. I'm intrigued by the fact that doesn't need batteries. Batteries on my boat don't store very long. I'm sure that it isn't the best scope out there, and there are currently about a dozen of them on ebay for under $100 delivered. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Really useful for cruisers would be cheap price, reasonable quality night vision. I don't buy $300 or $700 binocs and wouldn't consider those $$$ for night vision either. I see Harbor Freght has one at $69 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=45372 See my comments in Alt.Saling.Asa and read reviews on Amazon. I'm using a under $200 Night Owl that works very well. RB |

Update: there are 3 now left. I guess no one here has messed with this
particular unit. I'm gonna take a risk and bid anyhow. "J. Slater" wrote in message news ![]() Anyone had experience with the Tasco NV150L, the one that is "self powered"? It is a gen 1 scope and really, really small. The 35mm objective is too small. Also: There's no IR illuminator, which WILL be useful on a boat in very dark conditions. I'd pass. Add to that that it's used and you can spend on a better unit. RB RB |

Sheesh!
Seldom, if EVER, do you "get what you pay for". That is the most worn out, least apropriate addage to soil our ears. It is the phrase that advertizers leaked to the masses. do you now whay a Rolex costs so much? simpy because of the exclusivity factor not because it is 'worth it' or that it keps time 20,000 times better. I can think of hundreds of instances personally where i got less and paid more.... If you can see at all in the dark even once and avoided a collision for $70 it would be "worth it" would it not? now, where was I??? oh yeah, building the better mouse trap and waiting for the world to beat a path to my door.
