So, I fooled the greedy *******s! I now burn gasohol in my alcohol stove. I mix it 50/50 and it not only burns hotter and boils water faster but it will turn way down for simmering without spitting and going out. (Oh, I finally figured out what caused the spitting. It's water in the alcohol that condenses under the dome of the burner and erupts into steam from time to time.) Try it, you'll like it. Saves big bucks. Wilbur Hubbard If you use straight gasoline you will have an even hotter flame. Cheers, Bruce (bruceinbangkokatgmaildotcom) I'm considering testing it with straight gasohol but only ashore or on a dock - not in my boat in case it blows up or something. Wilbur Hubbard The solution is LPG; with appropriate safety measures. Good heat value, easy to handle and cheap. Trouble with LPG is it's heavier than air and explosive as hell. I don't think blowing up my boat and myself is worth taking the chance. Wilbur Hubbard |
