I'm considering testing it with straight gasohol but only ashore or on a
dock - not in my boat in case it blows up or something.

The solution is LPG; with appropriate safety measures. Good heat
value, easy to handle and cheap.


Trouble with LPG is it's heavier than air and explosive as hell. I don't
think blowing up my boat and myself is worth taking the chance.

Far less explosive then gasoline, and if you do a little reading on
the home distilling sites you will see that alcohol is considered by
them as more dangerous then gasoline.

Besides, I did specify "appropriate safety measures" - either an
outside mounting for the tanks or a gas tight compartment vented
overboard, a fail close solenoid valve at the bottles, only turn the
gas on when you actually use it, and a gas sensor.
