Default I don't know what over came me....

Come to America. I can get you a teaching position!
I once gave a reasonable assignment to the class, and a tough guy in the
back says, "**** you."
I asked him to step into my office for clarification. When I was sure no one
could hear our conversation, I said to him, "what do you mean, **** me?
**** you boy!"
I didn't have a bit of trouble with him the rest of the year.

That's weird the way you guys have things run down there.

It's all the liberal "touchy-feelies"...Their take would be that the =
"poor kid" had been abused when he was younger, had no father in the =
household, came from a poverty-stricken area, and was born addicted to =
cocaine, so how the heck is he culpable for his own actions when others =
actions have been foisted upon him for so long....While all that may be =
true, it still does not justify anti-social behavior, but kids keep =
getting away with it here...too bad so many studied sociology in the =
60's and 70's....Look what it's done for us.

Ya know, I didn't see much of this sort of crap when I lived in
Tucson. Maybe sociologists were thin on the ground, or maybe it was
all them grannies wearing fanny packs :-)

Katy,
It's a tough lot here. I'm not in a traditional high school. Most are
already in trouble with the law by the time I see them, and we're the last
chance for many. There's a lot to like about these kids and I honestly care
a great deal about them, but they're a different breed and each one's a
unique story. Some need a huggin' and some need a sluggin' The kid I
referred to in my last post knew I was risking my job by speaking so plainly
with him, and he said so, along with apologizing and thanking me for caring
enough to take that risk. It was a gamble but I don't think he would have
heard anything else.
Although I'd never actually hit a student outside of self-defense, some of
them need to see a sign that I'm not, as PJR so eloquently put it, Mr.
Bow-Tie, lol! 20+ years in construction has not gone to waste.

Hahahahaha! Nah, one of the imps was doing his best to put me in the
stereotypical English teacher-mold, and accused me of being a bow-tie
wearer! You'd have to see me to appreciate the real humor in that!
Although . . . now that you mention it, I might have to do it one day just
to see the reactions. The only tough part will be keeping a straight face.

please lie....

You are very lucky you didn't break your hand hitting him that hard. I
know just how you feel about this, it's the sort of disrespect for
others that is so rampant today and is seen the behaviour of the foul
mouthed cross posters who are trying to disrupt this NG. It is a pity
that they were not taught to repect others (esp. elders) by the
'parents' (I use that term loosley for their parenting skills are
usually minimal) who bred them. Still animals breed without much trouble
eh? But curs always run away when it gets difficult. I was once attacked
by 3 ghetto youths in Baltimore while carrying a briefcase. One good
punch to the ringleader with my one free hand (after he tried to cold
cock me from my blind side) was all it too to make them look for an
easier target. I told the first cop car I saw but they couldn't care less.

Okay, so I'm taking my dear ole Mum to the shopping center to get a new
phone. There is some ruckus going on at the door being caused by a bunch of
young hoodlums dressed like gansta rappers and the mall security. The
security guards are calling for back up and I see teens shove an elderly
gentleman attempting to enter the mall right into the rail and down on the
ground. I'm watching all this in amazement and wondering how I'm going to
get my sweet little mom with a bad heart into the mall safely.

I had a route planned to circumvent the altercation.... when as fate would
have it my mother had about enough of the swearing and foul language and
decided to poke her cane at the nearest one... who by chance to my running
bad luck.... seemed to be the toughest and loudest looking one in the lot.
She told him to mind his manners and he managed to get the words "**** off
you bitch" out, before I snapped and hit him with full body backed punch
that hit so hard it lifted him off his feet and cracked the door he hit with
his head before falling down to the ground... out for the count. The rest
of the delinquents split like covey of flushed quail and I escorted mom in
to the phone store a few feet inside the doors. The cops arrived...
questioned me, arrested the guy I hit. Apparently this same guy had pulled a
knife on one of the security guards earlier on. This "teen" was at least 6'
and easily my weight.... what are they feeding these guys nowadays. We never
did this **** when I was growing up!

My knuckles are bruised but not cut and it was at least a half hour before
the adrenaline rush subsided so I could have a smoke without my hands
shaking. I'm having a couple of stiff drinks.... it's been about 8 years
since I hit anyone. It felt oddly good though!

Oh yeah... forgot to mention.... my mum never batted an eyelash and was cool
as a cucumber throughout the whole thing. When I asked her about it she
reminded me she was in europe during WW2 and lived in the jungle in Africa
for 10 years.

If you lived here, you'd be getting the subpoena papers for a personal
injury suit in the morning and then you'd have to move to Canada to
escape....

That's weird the way you guys have things run down there. He looked like

he
was going to take a swing at my mother... I didn't really think about

what
I was doing... it just happened! ...that's what I told the police.

The cops seemed rather amused if anything. My hands were visibly

shaking...

Well, I should think not!

So, do you **** all your students?

Does the Principal know?

Yep, or they claim to use killfiles, which amounts to pretty much the same
thing.
