Default Tug - LUCINDA SMITH 4-20a.jpg

SOUTHERN STYLE

Up from the south and pushing " two abreast" the Lucinda Smith has
empty hopper barges heading for a dredge operation. The Canal
dispatcher's don't like this configuration of side by side since it
limits the beam of any opposing vessels coming in the opposite
direction . Some dispatchers will make a tug made up like this wait
until the Canal is clear , before giving permission to enter .

Some with two barges will go end to end but that makes for tricky
maneuvering if it gets windy.
