A terrific honor for Al and the United States.

Yep, and congrats to him for his award and commitment, regardless of
whether
global warming is indeed, man induced.

It's ironic that had he been declared the victor in 2000, it is unlikely
he
would receiving a Nobel prize today.

Eisboch

Most republicans think that global warming isn't happening in any way,
man made or otherwise. Imagine how awful they must feel realizing that
someone won the Nobel prize for something they believe to be
fictitous.

This is the citation of the Nobel Committee:

"Indications of changes in the earth's future climate must be treated
with the utmost seriousness, and with the precautionary principle
uppermost in our minds. Extensive climate changes may alter and
threaten the living conditions of much of mankind. They may induce
large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's
resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the
world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of
violent conflicts and wars, within and between states."

It's a pretty reasonable statement, as long as "precautionary principle" is
carefully considered, which of course nobody agrees on. The other extreme's
probably a lousy idea: Don't look, don't think about it, don't talk about
it.

This is the intent of the Nobel Peace Prize as stated in Albert
Nobel's will establishing the Nobel Peace Prize.

"to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for
fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of
standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace
congresses".

There doesn't seem to be a lot of "precautionary principle" in that
statement for subjective climate change theory movies. :)

Thus, for saving the world from the domination of Omicron Persei VIII,
I gladly claim the prize because it may (or may not) happen. The
precautionary principle is that I may (or may not) save the world from
alien invasion fits perfectly.

Gimme my money.

Here you go again, using words that have nothing to do with the
discussion
in progress. Who's telling you to say "communism"? 'Fess up. Who's

you?

Ah, the man with a million questions is up and about, assigning NG

already.

It was a fair question, Eisboch. I mean, if you decided to try your hand
at
making sourdough bread, and your wife said "Don't forget the time you
tried
plumbing and flooded the basement", you'd probably wonder how her mind
made
that leap. The same thing is happening here. It's a stupid kneejerk
reaction
from a person pulling a word outta his ass with no idea what it means or
how
it applies to the situation (which it clearly does not).

I don't like communism or socialism, but that's not what this is about.

How do you define 'sot', 'socialism', or 'communism'?

John, STFU.

John, if you're going to be a clown, you may as well get paid for it. Good
luck.

And, what's your brief definition of socialism ?
Explain as if you needed to say it in a short sentence
to a psychology class.

Yesterday the talking point he got from Limbaugh the drug addict was
"socialist", today it's "communism".

So, if I have this straight, Gore won for proselytizing a less than
universally accepted "scientific" theory which, presumably, has led to
action which prevented (or not) possible future competition for
resources, possible future conflicts, and future wars which haven't
happened yet and which may (or may not) ever occur because they are
only a possibility.

I think is a great precedent! If one can win a Nobel Peace Prize for
preventing events from transpiring which never actually would have
happened anyway, than I am your man.

Year 2050: Shortwave Sportfishing's posting of the first rec.boats low
transom thread is finally received by the residents of Omicron Perseii
VIII, saving the Earth from brutal annexation.

Gimme my prize!! You can keep the medal, just give me the million
bucks.

If they do, my respect for the Nobel Committee will increase significantly.

Yes. Hugh Bimbo, as Michael Savage calls him. The bimbo who said this:

"I always say my real purpose is to attract the largest audience I can, and
hold it for as long as I can, so I can charge confiscatory advertising
rates," the talk show host says.
