Yep, and congrats to him for his award and commitment, regardless of whether global warming is indeed, man induced. It's ironic that had he been declared the victor in 2000, it is unlikely he would receiving a Nobel prize today. Eisboch Most republicans think that global warming isn't happening in any way, man made or otherwise. Imagine how awful they must feel realizing that someone won the Nobel prize for something they believe to be fictitous. This is the citation of the Nobel Committee: "Indications of changes in the earth's future climate must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and with the precautionary principle uppermost in our minds. Extensive climate changes may alter and threaten the living conditions of much of mankind. They may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states." So, if I have this straight, Gore won for proselytizing a less than universally accepted "scientific" theory which, presumably, has led to action which prevented (or not) possible future competition for resources, possible future conflicts, and future wars which haven't happened yet and which may (or may not) ever occur because they are only a possibility. I think is a great precedent! If one can win a Nobel Peace Prize for preventing events from transpiring which never actually would have happened anyway, than I am your man. Year 2050: Shortwave Sportfishing's posting of the first rec.boats low transom thread is finally received by the residents of Omicron Perseii VIII, saving the Earth from brutal annexation. Gimme my prize!! You can keep the medal, just give me the million bucks.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Have you ever heard of a place called Somalia? It's universally accepted that the civil wars there are attributed to climate change. Drought. And that has what to do with anything? Climate change, peace. Nobel Peace Prize. Al Gore. Is ANYTHING hitting those brain cells of yours yet? Oh, and *I* have never had a heart attack, ever.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Oh bullcrap... Somalia was racist, corrupt, and at war long before Al invented the idea of taxing corporations based on normal global cycles, They are not connected. the way you are using them, they are just words... What do the Global Taxing folks say about the great historical freezes in South America lately and the fact that the antarctic ice cap is growing faster than any time in history. Well, they won't address it, and when faced with the possiblity of be faced with these facts they dismiss the query and run away...- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - "Global Taxing folks" WTF? And you, like a lot of conservatives with there head in the sand can't possibly understand how the antarctic ice cap is growing faster and still have the earth warming up, can you? It's actually quite simple. Want to try, or do you need me to tell you the answer? |

There's no evidence to suggest that the droughts were man caused, but man's farming practices surely increased the severity of the dust storms. Then again, man's farming practices (at least here in the US) have raised ag production and made the US probably the leader in world food distribution. So? |

Imagine how awful they must feel realizing that someone won the Nobel prize for something they believe to be fictitous. Adolph Hitler would have gotten a nobel prize if he won the war. That prize is more political than merit. Has been for at least 10-20 years now. Take a look at Gore's electric bill via Google. Does not practice what he preaches. Hypocrite. Global warming or not. Besides I like the idea of fishing in Minnesota in January with sun screen. Why should Florida get all the fun. Sour grapes. The nobel peace prize is the most prestigious award in the world.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I correctly predicted to my wife that the conservatives would go absolutely insane because of this! Wow, that was a really tough prediction. One atta boy for you. |
