The dog does get me out more often but the wife & I take turns on the 6 or 7 walks each day. At the risk of sounding like a reformed smoker ... Good for you! Believe it or not, the experts say all you need is 30 minutes of walking at a brisk pace, 3 or 4 times a week to maintain your cardiovascular health and weight. Exercise by itself is not very efficient if your goal is to lose weight because it takes a lot of exercise to burn 3500 calories. But exercise is very important for other reasons, including maintaining your current weight. To lose weight you need both exercise and diet. Eisboch What diet did yo go on. Atkin's is unhealthy, and may end up with Kidney stones etc. |

There are some ellipticals that have a built in video monitor/tv in the console. Quite frankly, when I am at the peak of the resistance curve, I am huffing and puffing and concentrating on getting through the workout. I do it all the time. There's a ledge on the bottom of the display panel designed to support a book, magazine, or newspaper in a comfortable position for reading. My hands/arms are swinging lightly at my sides and the overall body motion leaves the head fairly steady. There may be heavy breathing and lots of sweat but I prefer to concentrate on something else. -rick- |

I did a lot of reading on foods, healthy and not so healthy and just changed how and what I eat. No more donuts, cakes, etc. and more veggies, fruits and lean meats. I don't really worry about carbs, protein or even fat levels. My feeling is that too much emphasis is placed on these specific components in the commercial diets and not enough emphasis on considering food ... food. Basically, I think it's ok to indulge in just about anything as long as it's balanced and taken in moderation. It has worked so far for me. I've lost quite a bit of weight in a relatively short period of time and feel fine. The exercise helps big time also. Keeping the weight off is the next challenge and is the biggest downside of the various commercial diets IMO. They are too instructional and "easy". Maintaining the new weight requires a permanent lifestyle change that goes beyond dieting. You have to understand what you are doing, not simply following a guide. Eisboch |

Today, after I had responded to John's question, I was on the elliptical and noticed that it has the same type of ledge that you described on the console, designed to hold a book. I didn't have one, but visualized having a book on the ledge and realized that you could easily read while working out. It would block the fan, but I don't use it anyway. I'll try it tomorrow. The book makes time fly, or at least not drag.. Now, how would one decide between the Sole and the Precor? Consumer Reports gives the Precor EFX 5.19, at $2800, the highest score of the ellipticals it rates, but that doesn't include the Sole. -- ***** Have a super day! ***** John H |

Here's a review on the new Sole E-25. The only thing is that apparently since it was reviewed, Sole has changed the specs on the E-25 because mine has both the handbar heartrate monitor and the remote chest monitor receiver. It also has two closed loop heartrate user programs and has 20 levels, not 16. http://www.allellipticals.com/sole-e...l-trainer.html Eisboch |

Eisboch I'll have to give the elliptical a tryout next time I go to the gym. You and Rick have definitely got me interested. I wonder if would fit on the back of my boat. Hell, trolling would be a lot less boring with something else to do. -- ***** Have a super day! ***** John H |
