It wasn't too long ago (the beginning of this month, to be exact) that the
stock market was worried that economic growth was strengthening so quickly
that the Federal Reserve would have to boost interest rates -- the sooner,
the better. Fears of higher interest rates sent stocks tumbling.

......... Much snipped

To make matters worse, the cost of most necessities is soaring. Food prices
are up as much as 20 percent in some parts of the country, ditto for health
care, while energy costs are simply through the roof.

In the face of all this, it is nothing short of amazing that there are
economists out there who are still looking for strong growth in the months
ahead.

They must be looking out the rear window to where we've been -- not through
the windshield at where we're going.

While Europe was going through the "dark ages" culture was flourishing
throughout Islamic countries.

A few contributions for which the Arabs are
widely acknowledged:

1. Invented a system of numerals we still use today. Far more intellectually
advanced and simpler to use than the clumsy Roman numerals they supplanted.
(Give thanks to the Muslims every time you bill a patient, they invented the
numbers that you use)

2. Developed advanced math. The Arab math system of Al Gebra is taught in
schools today as algebra. Discovered many of the fundamental principles of
geometry.

3. Advanced the concepts of credit and banking.

4. Made significant advances in astronomy, advancing knowledge in the fields of
eclipses and planetary rotation.
Developed a calculation of the circumference of the earth that proved to be
accurate within several thousand feet.

5. An Islamic pysician, Ibn Sina, authored a book called Canon of Medicine.
This was considered the standard textbook for medical students for over 500
years.

6. Developed cavalry techniques that were copied by armies throughout the
world.

7. Developed the first successful treatments for cataracts.

8. Made significant discoveries and advancements in the field of chemistry.

9. Advanced the concept of codified law.

You probably didn't *really* want to know, but since you asked, :-)

Really, John? New levels? You obviously have not read any history of the
way the United States dealt with the American Indians during the 18th,
19th, and even 20th Centuries.

De you have any idea of how many native Americans were slaughtered in
our efforts to take away their lands and resettle them?

One way to define terrorism is the making of war on helpless civilians.
We were pretty damned expert at that.

In fact, even though we lost 3000+ souls on 9-11, and others since, the
total is a tiny fraction of the numbers our government killed in the
terrorism it perpetrated on native Americans.

And how about slavery, John? How many hundreds of thousands, millions of
blacks were terrorized by our policies of human bondage.

New level, indeed.

Uh, Nobby, most of the accomplishments and contributions of the Arab

'em.

What have they contributed to society except for oil...which we helped

Gould has already told you about significant contributions by Arabs. I
must add, though how ignorant you've proven yourself. They even
invented the numbering and math systems you use today. I was really
surprised by your above comment. I didn't know you were THAT dumb.
I'd like to add one, the Baghdad Battery. It's a simple voltic pile
battery, but, alas, it was made over 2000 years ago!!!

Relax, basshole. My statement already accomplished what it set out to
accomplish in the first place. And that would be...exposing Harry as

the
lying hypocrite that he is. Here's what he said in April 2002:

"The reality is that for at least the last 100 years, the so-called Arab

states have contributed absolutely nothing to the furthering of society

in
any field of endeavor and the only reason anyone tolerates their

anti-social
behavior is because they happen to be sitting on oil. If it weren't for
their oil, no one would pay them the slightest attention.
Their contributions to the fields of medicine, other sciences, the arts,
socialization, you name it and there is nothing there. Oh...I
forgot...they're adept at cowardice, at furthering the methodology of
terrorism and waging war on non-combatants."

----------------------------------------------------
You guys are so predictable...but it's still fun playing with you.

And when, oh dumb one, wase the list of accomplishments of the Arab
people "accomplished," as it were. More than 100 years ago. As I stated.

Sure, Harry. Of course, I *also* meant in the last 100 years. ;-)

Uh, Nobby, most of the accomplishments and contributions of the Arab
peoples to civilization are a tad more than 100 years old. Three's been
very little accomplished in the last 100 years, with some exceptions.

Got it now? MORE than 100 years ago, versus in the last 100 years.

Here is another quote from Harry he made on 4/12/02, concerning Iraq:

"You obviously are totally unaware of the history of that part of the
world for the last 150 years. In the last 60 years alone, the Arabs have
done little more than try to kill every Jew in Israel and since 1948, to
destroy the state of Israel itself. And its not just Jews the Moslems
like to kill. They like to kill each other. More than a million Moslems
were killed by other Moslems in the Iraq-Iran war, for example. Moslems
kill each other in great numbers. I don't know why; perhaps to them,
life is cheap."

Actually, NOYB, you would have approved at the time. The Huegonots were
protestants, (radical liberals), and the French ruling class was catholic, (old
line conservatives).

Catherine de Medici was one of the most powerful women in the history of the
middle ages. Two or three of her sons became King of France in their day. At
different periods in her life she was achnowledged as the actual power behind
the French throne.

de Medici pretended to pursue peace with the protestants. In fact, she offered
the hand of her daughter to one of the Huegonot leaders, Henry of Navarre.
She invited all the huegonots to come to town to celebrate the wedding, and
when they were assembled, (unarmed), she ordered them killed.

"Marshall-like plan" to rebuild that country. That wouldn't eliminate
terrorism, but it would curtail it a bit, at least the terrorism that

oblivion. I don't know about you, but it sure makes me feel secure.

If any of you buttlickers had a brain, you'd realize my comments about
Afghanistan were based upon misinformation the Bush Administration was
feeding us right after 9-11. As soon as it became apparent Afghanistan
was not the culprit, I changed my mind and said I was wrong. Which is
more than the idiot in the White House seems capable of doing, eh?

Oh...and as I have pointed out, the Arabs have made significant
contributions to society and culture. Arab culture reached its height
during the reign of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, from 1520 until
1566. No state was more powerful at that time, and his rule brought with
it a magnificent rebirth of literature, the arts, the sciences, and the law.

But you buttlickers believe civilization began and ended with Ronald
Reagan. Did any of you ever study history?

After Suleyman, the Ottoman empire declined for about 300 years, and in
its last 100 years, which ended in the previous century, with the
etablishment of Turkey in the 1920s, the great Arab contributions ended.

Just as I stated.

feeding us right after 9-11. As soon as it became apparent Afghanistan
was not the culprit, I changed my mind and said I was wrong. Which is
more than the idiot in the White House seems capable of doing, eh?

You let your emotions overtake your intellect again when you uttered those
words.

Oh...and as I have pointed out, the Arabs have made significant
contributions to society and culture. Arab culture reached its height
during the reign of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, from 1520 until
1566. No state was more powerful at that time, and his rule brought with
it a magnificent rebirth of literature, the arts, the sciences, and the

law.

The rise and fall of nations and cultures is constant. Nobody is at their
pinnical for ever. The Arab culture is not different than the Romans,
Greeks, Ottomans, Mongols, Inca's, Aztecs. Everyone has the few centuries of
glory.

But you buttlickers believe civilization began and ended with Ronald
Reagan. Did any of you ever study history?

The restoration of the American culture and civilization began again with
the election of the greatest president of the 20th centurey, Ronald Reagan.

After Suleyman, the Ottoman empire declined for about 300 years, and in
its last 100 years, which ended in the previous century, with the
etablishment of Turkey in the 1920s, the great Arab contributions ended.

There time was up? Now it is our time.

Just as I stated.

Twist it anyway you want.
