Speed should be regulated according to depth. Who's in a hurry,
anyway, and why?

How much non-renewable resources does it take to make a 50' sailboat?

And

to replace the sails.

Sailboats are in a whole different category...at one with nature..quiet
yet beautiful.

I think the gov't should offer a tax deduction to encourage sailboat
buyers and discourage power.

I think *your* government should. Our government is happy the way

things
are.

Actually, our government doesn't KNOW where it is. :-) A tax break for
buying light trucks? Hello???

Relaxed emission and economy regulations for light trucks? Hello?

That's like a discount for high rate of fire guns and ammo. Goodbye?

So THAT'S why I can't find discounts on full cases of ammo! There's no law
suggesting such discounts?

Doug,
Good idea, that would also help them out with possible shark attacks.
:-) How it may not be politically correct, but have you given any thought to
mines! Now I realize that a few manatees would have to make the ultimate
sacrifice, but the rest of the herd would be better off for it. I mean after
a few boats blew up, EVERYBODY would slow down. Hey, you know, if this idea
takes off I'm going to invest in companies that make sonar gear. :-)

They would have been better off spending the money to buy Kevlar jackets

for the
manatees. If everyone who hit a manatee broke their prop and/or destroyed

their
lower unit, instead of merely injuring the animal, then the need for

slowing
down (or not) would be obvious... and wouldn't need law enforcement.

Don,
Land mines and water don't mix. Ya need to get the underwater mines. :-)

Some kind of governor on the throttle that could be activated within a

mile
or so of land might also be worthwhile.
After all, the problem isn't the manatees..but the yahoo cowboys who want

to
roar around wasting precious non-renewable
energy sources.

When I said manatee do not belong here, is because there were inported

from
West India to miami to eat the plants clogging the cannals.

OK, but so what? They're here. If you move to a new neighborhood and the
locals don't like your family, is it OK for them to run you down with

their
cars? :-)

Another neat trick would be miniature submarines built like the original
Nautilus form 20,000 Leagues Under fame.
I like that jagged battering ram they used to sink wood ships.
Suppose they would work on speeding fiberglass boats?
